I received my first notice via email. Then I filled out and application, but not knowing that it was bogus. Then on April 14, I received a letter from, well about four different companies stating that I have won a total of $38,000. The trick to this was that I had to deposit a check in the amount of $3800 in my bank account to pay taxes on the $38,000. I knew something was suspicious about the whole ordeal when I couldn't reach anyone and the fact that there were four different companies listed between the letter and the bad check. I started calling banks and looking on the internet for the names listed on the check and letter. I even called a couple of banks and one bank told me that check number wasn't listed in their files. I had to tell my mom this and I let her know that I did see the news about bogus checks floating around. I'm glad I took further actions to protect myself. Hopefully someone else will read this and do the same, because whether innocent consumers realize it or not, they can get into deep trouble if they are unaware of the consequences of going through the process of getting involved with scam artist like these.
