After a bizarre shipping experience with an order of a tractor implement, I am wondering if this freight company actually exists.

The implement was picked up in Mesa, AZ on January 15th and seemed to disappear off the face of the earth on Febuary 16th.  After following the tracking, it seems that the implement travelled aroud 90 miles a day and evidently made it to Knoxville, TN where it disappearred.  The company that the implement was shipped from has arrainged the reshipping of the implement because Freight Tailor was not "responding" to the company's requests, etc....  The implement was re-shipped out of Mesa, but this time using a different shipping company.

After searching online for additional information on Freight Tailor, it seems that nothing can be found.  I did run onto several pages of tracking numbers, most of which seemed to not be delivered, some of which were delivered (some on time, but most not).

I am wondering if the freight company is actually a bogus one that is set up by the tractor implement company and is used to deal with the slowness of how they handle the shipping of their implements.

Freight Tailor update

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, June 10, 2015

After ordering a chipper from Liberty Implements, the unit was "supposedly" shipped out on Freight Tailor.  The tracking information showed snail paced shipping that took weeks to go to TN and the shipping quit HOURS away from where it was to be delivered.

After many calls and emails, the unit was "lost" and a new unit had to be shipped. This unit was sent using Central Transport.  After being shipped using Central Transport, the chipper arrived one week later.

Here are some other interesting aspects of dealing with Freight Tailor and / or Liberty Implements:

  1. The chipper that I received when Central Transport delivered it to me had paperwork that indicated it was sold and to be shipped to someone in Virginia (I live in NC).  I traced down the person that the unit was to be shipped to and found out that they were given the run around with Freight Tailor shipping and finally decided to cancel the order / shipment.  It appears that I got their order as a replacement of the “one that was lost”.
  2. After doing more and more searches online to try and learn more about Freight Tailor, I did come across some tracking statements of other buyers that had equipment shipped using Freight Tailor.  Seems that the amount of time to have the unit shipped to the buyer was ridiculous and rarely delivered. I can’t seem to find the tracking sites any longer since they seem to vanish like my chipper did.
  3. Months later and a few weeks ago, I received a call from a guy that ordered a chipper from Liberty and naturally, shipped via Freight Tailor.  He had a tracking number that showed slow shipping and then it vanished from the earth.  He had made multiple calls to Liberty and seemed to be given the run around. Eventually, Liberty seemed to not call him back or just hang up on him.  Not sure if he ever got his unit.

He is my thought on the shipping situation:

When you order from Liberty, they handle it by shipping it on Freight Tailor. You are given a tracking number with a bogus company, so that Liberty can order your equipment from overseas.  Since it takes a while to be made and get to the US, a bogus shipping / tracking number is given to make the buyer feel as though they will get their equipment.  If someone cancels their order because they are tired of the issues, then once the overseas product arrives, it will be shipped to the next person that ordered the same unit or to the one that is most upset with how things are going.

The chipper that I received is a nice unit and I am pleased with it.  According to the user manual, the unit is supposed to be already put together.  I had to do a bit more than what is told in the manual. I was also supposed to get a spare set of blades, but had to call and ask for them- no free, extra set was shipped.

Would I order from Liberty Implements if I had to do it all over?

Nope, I would not order from them.  It would have been nice of them to tell me up front that the chipper would take 2 months to get to me, verses being given what it definitely appears to be tracking information from a bogus company (and one that has absolutely no contact information on their website.)

Good luck with your delivery. If they tell you that the shipment in now being shipped with Central Transport, you can feel a little better.

GUESSING

I am not disputing that there is something wrong here, but I am goingto use the devils advocate position.

If we accept the seller shipped it, and the 90 miles a day is correct-ish for low priority rail freight.

So your supplier calls a Freight Broker to minimise his and your expense, the broker decides that rail looks like the cheap option he can make some extra margin on. The rail company parks your load on a siding and forgets where it is. Happens all the time. Especially as it is probably not a full car load.

The Broker, the Rail-road, The shipper, Nobody knows where the heck it is, It could be stolen, shoved into a back siding, damaged and hidden by the freight company or half a million other things, none the direct fault of the shipper.

Sounds like they are trying to be reasonable and responsible to you

Good Luck
