Ramey Motor Towing of Cleveland, Georgia, sold us a $5,000 used engine. Jeff Ramey & his father, J.B. Ramey were well aware of the truck this engine was to be installed in. When the engine was delivered to our mechanic, our mechanic refused it saying it was the incorrect engine. J.B. Ramey of Ramey Motor Towing insisted it would work and refused to reimburse the $5,000 paid in advance. Although we regarded our mechanic's expertise highly, we also trusted that the Ramey's knew their business as well, and since they refused to take the engine back and refund our money, we felt we didn't have much choice. We told our mechanic to go ahead and install the engine.
The truck did not run from the start. We contacted the Ramey's and were told to try this and to try that. For two weeks we made adjustments and tried this and that as the Ramey's suggested to no avail and the engine finally failed. We contacted the Ramey's again and were informed that they don't guarantee used engines and further, that we caused the engine to fail by not keeping the proper amount of oil in the engine.
We have since contacted a Field Service Enginer of Navistar which is the maker of our International Truck. We gave him the serial numbers of the original engine and the replacement engine and asked him whether it would be a good replacement. He stated that it would not appear cost effective as we would have to replace the High Pressure Pump, Turbo, Piston/Crown, and Second Ring. I have this in writing.
Apparently, our mechanic was correct. The engine Ramey Motor Towing sold us was not the correct engine, and in order to "make it work", we would have to over-haul it and spend a significant amount of money to do so. It would of been cheaper to have rebulit the original engine that was in the truck.
The Ramey's were only interested in taking our money............customer satisfaction is apparently not a part of their service business. BUYER BEWARE!
