I would like to give everyone a 'heads-up' concerning the
ONLY grocery store in town. It has come to my attention, after several visits to this store, now under new management (Ramey's), that you can't trust the computer to get your item prices correct.
Item's marked on sale throughout the store are charged a
different price at the cash register. Nine items, purchased the other night, yielded a three dollar
difference at the register. When I confronted the manager, I was able to recover almost two dollars but they still ripped me off for a buck.
Tonight I noticed one item, a loaf of bread was priced for $1.49 on sale. When I checked out, I was charged $2.99. I said something to the cashier and I think she changed it but, who knows, she didn't give me a printed receipt.
Although this doesn't seem like a lot, I'm sure it adds up since this is the only grocery store withing 20 miles of this town. Monticello is a freindly town and there is some concern about people taking their business outside.
We're always being asked to shop local and help support the town businesses.
If I find it necessary to travel to a larger town to buy my groceries, I will probably also complete my shopping there, i.e. gas, electronics, clothing, and even medical supplies.
I have already warned my friends of the Ramey's rip-off and they have become aware of the differences in prices from the shelf to the register, but, now it's beginning to get under my skin.
I'm sure this is not the first time a bigger chain of stores, Ramey's, has moved into a small town, bought the only grocery store, and tried to take advantage of the local customers who can't afford to go elsewhere.
Don't be surprised if you see me, walking the sidewalks by the store, with a sign-----WATCH YOUR CHECKOUT-------.

Just last week I was in Rameys in Monticello.I bought a loaf of bread that had a large round orange sticker on it with 1.99 written in it.When I got home and looked at my ticket I had been charged 3.59 for the bread. This isn't the first time a similar thing has happened to me at that store. As David said there isn't another store. They will refund if you go back, but who needs the aggravation of having to do that since it is their fault anyway? I think they take a chance that you won't notice and more profit for them. When the customer has to go back to get a refund they should give you the product.

The guy David sounds like a lot of people I run into in Monticello. I have lived in Monticello a long time, so I have ran into several. Ramey's opened a few months before he posted this comment, and he is right. When they first opened there were some pricing issues, but there were also pricing issues when Sunflower first opened and every other grocery store that ever opened in Monticello. Also Sunflower was the only grocery store in town. Only one store can survive in that town, look at its history. I frequent the store quite a bit and now that they have been open for awhile I never have a pricing issue. People that have the biggest trouble with pricing are people who don't read signs or are trying to get something for nothing. Grow up David. At least they know my name when I walk into Ramey's which is more than I can say for Walmart. Ramey's grocery prices are a little higher but the produce and meat are second to none, plus Ramey's DONATES MONEY to all our local charities.
