When I first signed up I loved this gym. I lost weight, got fit and had fun. Unfortunately a few months in (last year) the manager/ boss left for Colorado. That’s when things seemingly started to fall apart. A new sleezy manager/ boss was hired. When I went to renew my membership (I wanted to stay, the coaches were great) he pushed me into a year contract, encouraged me to pay in full and didn’t give me any receipt of purchase. He said I didn't need it, he'd send it to me, printer’s down... etc.
I continued to train even thought I wasn't sure about the place and I wasn’t too sure what my options were. A couple months went by and they announced the move to the Laguna Hills location saying it’s an expansion - state of the art gym. I even started recruiting my friends because the boss promised to train me/ help me with my nutrition, etc. Turns out that they basically got evicted from the Mission Viejo gym (check the yelp reviews) and were not paying bills. I had been wondering why the water in the ladies’ bathroom wasn't working...
By now it was almost summer and I was still hoping to get in shape. But the gym was barely finished! No showers, horrible carpet under the bags, paint chipping off the floor. Yes they had painted the floor. I kept going because of my coach. Then the manager/ boss quit too. It seemed like the gym was running itself. The franchise owner tried to pull some stuff together but ended up going to Thailand with his wife. Literally at this point the gym was member run. Members taught the class. I still forgot to mention the personal drama all throughout this time with staff dating members, and management asking me to visit their hotel room!
A few members stopped in to say that their credit cards had been charged without their permission upwards of $100. Shortly after, June 18th, the gym closed. Lights off. Doors locked. No warning. I called my bank and had my cards cancelled. I tried to get some personal training services that were not rendered charged back to my credit card but I’m still battling. The gym has reopened but some key staff members and patrons still remain. The members are even helping to clean and paint the gym for the "reopening." I do not wish to be associated with a gym like this and I don’t have time to work for free. I tried to call the gym to get my money back for the rest of the year and they said that there was nothing they could do except for extend my membership. I don't think they understand what a rollercoaster this has been. I'm still lucky. Many of the coaches’ checks bounced this past year. I’m tired of hearing that the new management will make it better. I can't take the risk of continuing to visit a place like this. Please be aware. The problem starts at the top and may continue to persist.
