On 8/14/14, a debit for $49.95 that I did not recognize appeared in the online transactions of my Visa debit card issued through Chase bank.  The company was listed as "888-524-1619.COM PINELLAS PARK FL".  When I called them, I reached a woman with a foreign accent at what was clearly (from the background sounds) a call center, who said her company was called "Customer Service" -- that's it, just Customer Service, no other words in the name -- and that they were a 3rd party payment processor for "thousands of companies".  She told me that the transaction was for a recurring order of a vitamin supplement called Raspberry Ketone Strength from a website called raspberryketonestrength.com.  She did not believe me when I stated that I had never even heard of let alone ordered such a product -- she insisted that I must have ordered it and forgotten.  I will also add here that the customer service agent, being told only my zip code and last name, came back with my full name and address, so this wasn't a case of someone randomly generating 16-digit numbers in hopes that one was a real card number -- this was a full-blown data theft.

She cancelled the recurring part of the order quite readily, but when I insisted that the $49.95 be refunded as well, she put me on hold to allegedly speak to a supervisor, and then came back and said I would be issued the refund, but it would take 7-10 business days to be processed.

They did in fact issue the refund in less than 7 days, but the more I thought about the situation, the more nervous I became, so I called the fraud department of Chase Bank to report the situation.  The agent there felt that they should cancel the card and issue me a new one with a different number, which was done, and I have since received the new card.  However, since that time, I have learned via the internet of dozens of other people experiencing the exact same scam, with minor variations of the phone number, the alleged city, or the particular product, though the product is always some sort of health supplement widely sold online.  As I have also learned that some of the victims were scammed again on their new (reissued) cards with different numbers, I am fearful to use the card at all!

I will also add that another victim of the same scam attempted to locate this Customer Service company in Pinellas Park, FL, but could not locate it, and made a report to the Better Business Bureau there.  I am sure however that the city was just randomly chosen and that it was never there, as other victims of the scam had seen other cities on their bank transactions.  I also never visited either of the websites named in this report even after the fact to see what they were about, as a friend suggested to me that they might be set up to install malware on my computer.
