Purchase a 2006 Ford Escape for $12000.00 with $800 down March 2015. I knew this was way to expensive, but had credit issues and needed a car for work. I should have known the business was unprofessional when I was a witness to the male employee physically pulling the female employee by the hair, hitting her in the face. I made him stop and stayed to make a witness report with the police. I've had know payment issues until August 2016 I drive school buses did not work this summer. Made company aware I would be making $100 payment instead of my usual $200 bi-weekly payments. I was told this would be ok just try not to be to far behind. I still received calls everytime payment was due, and continued to make them aware of my situation. Very frustrated that apparently this is not being noted. I've had full coverage with the same insurance agency for over 3 years.
I received a call on August 7th asking for payment. I told the employee I would began work Aug 22nd and at this time I could only bring in $50 today or Monday. Again, I was told that soul be noted and would be fine. At this point I was $200 behind and the new payment for $200 just hit. I was also told she was unable to verify my insurance and she was not told why. I offered to email, fax a copy of insurance information. I was told she would try again following business day, Monday. I called insurance company and was told she did not have my updated mailing address. When I called back to make her aware of the information I received they were closed. Aug 8th my car was repo'd. I had a remaining balance of $4,448 and was told I had to pay balance in full because the finance company, their finance company dropped me. I asked to speak with anyone regarding options for me to pay off remaining balance and got blank faces. I am disgusted! Now school has started and I am without transportation. I even offered putting $1000 on the remaining balance so that I can pick up payments to finish paying off my car. They have refused my offer. There has to be something that can be done.

Poor Decision

You failed to honor the terms of the agreement; therefore, your claim of a rip-off is not valid.
You had access to $1000 but didn’t offer that money until after the repo even though you were $400 in arrears. Poor decision.

You Already Did It

Very interesting. You say you bought this car in March and YOU KNEW there would be no source of income during the summer months because your income is derived from driving school buses. Therefore, YOU entered into this deal knowing YOU could not make the payments! What about working part time or at a summer job like some teachers do? You made no mention of that in your posting so one must surmise you had no intention of making full payments during those months. Additionally, you admitted to moving as the insurance company needed your new address and as such, the proof of insurance coverage matter could become convoluted because of, again YOUR FAILURE, to keep the insurance company updated.
As we continue in your narrative, you stated the lender did, up to a point, accept partial payments, which of course was an example of them going beyond the call of duty in order to preserve a customer. However, it is clear, you strung them along until the breaking point and they decided they no longer trusted you and as such, did not want to continue to do business with you. It is also quite possible they realized you entered into this deal based on seasonal work but you had no intention of supplementing your income in an effort to keep up with YOUR OBLIGATION to keep up with the payments.
BOTTOM LINE: They did you a favor by holding off on a repo which YOU caused. YOU caused this by YOUR FAILURE to replace cashflow from your SEASONAL job. Quite obviously, they "had enough" of the stringing along and elected to not be strung along anymore. Neither you, me or anyone else is ENTITLED to a car without making agreed upon payments.
