Purchased a 2005 Ford Supercrew Kingranch top of the line truck for $20 000 dollars that came with 2 full coverage warranties. Returned it within 10days as engine was diagnosed as inoperable and replacement required. Sales lot manager John .. agreed after a week of unnecessary negotiating to replace with new reman longblock and instructed service manager in my presence to order the necessary new parts.. I arrived back at the lot 2days later to find them getting ready to install an engine from a smashed up offroad written off 1 ton truck with a different variation of engine! Threatened litigation at that time for this deceptive practice and breach of warranty and loss of value and intended use if they went through with the install. have been told that another wrecked motor is now on the way with out any service history but of the right variation and that is all I get... quote from John ( " I'm not going to be the one here who takes it up the a*s") 23 days now and my truck is sitting out back with the original engine laying on the ground. Have never even received a phone call from them?? Left message for the owner to contact me and nothing? This is UNCONSIONABLE in my books. And trust me..this is the short version!! Reg Midgley Motors ..Home of the used parts warranty!!

..oh wait..the truck is 5-6 years old? How much mileage is on it?
And..does the warranty state if the engine goes bad in a week that it will be replaced with a numbers matching engine?

Whenever I need a Junkyard engine, I look for a car that has front end damage, at least then I know the engine was running when the car was wrecked.

I do see your point..

And I also agree a numbers matching engine will always be worth more. But this is not a Bugatti..it is a fancy ford pickup and far from an antique, classic or collectible.
You won't lose a substantial amount of resale just because the engine was replaced..as long as it is the correct engine. I know this because I am a buyer/seller..but mostly with classic vehicles and Jeeps.
Did you buy this truck as an investment to turn over? or because you want to drive and enjoy it? Do you plan on bringing it to auction? How much mileage is on it now? This has nothing to do with me living in Hollywood..no one gets over on me here..oh, but they try.

you have missed at least one of the points

I appreciate your comment however I do not share your point in its entirety.. As a certified appraiser, I can assert that a non numbers matching vehicle in this particular case would constitute an element of accelerated depreciation. Auction value on this vehicle averages nationwide around the 13k range and this vehicle without any service history of a major component along with the fact that the same component (engine) doesnt match the mileage on the chassis, takes it to a vehicle that would be a harder sell to a discerning buyer. Market value defines its term as an item that would sell in a reasonable period of time between a willing buyer and seller. Given the fact that the bottom line is that items are only worth what people will pay..why would a knowledgable buyer pay market price for a mismatched item when they can get the same vehicle that is completely original and they can make an educated opinion of the drivetrain by the general appearance of the item in its original package and have access to its documentation. There are far less question marks in one mind. In this particular case there is no way to verify the mileage or service history of the used engine, as to date, the dealership has declined to document in any way. I invite you to explain how you might effectively convey to a prospective buyer that you want top dollar for a beautiful truck with unknown mileage and you have no idea what if any work or servicing has ever been done ...starting to see MY point?? Lets not forget that top dollar (actually just under 23000 ) was paid only 10 days earlier.. are you starting to see how the value of this truck is diminished? Consider that I have not even touched on contract law or morals or ethics or customer satisfaction... nor will I.. All conversations relating to the managers approval and ordering of the reman engine with documentation has fortunately been recorded digitally and will be evidence during litigation. The intent of the original post was for future buyers to have a heads up on what they may expect from this dealership.Once again I appreciate your input but as you are from Hollywood..I suggest you save it for the movies..Here in Canada, we dont take this $&it laying down!!

want to make sure you understand....I think it was dirty of them to try to get away with replacing the engine with with the wrong one..and that it has been 23 days. This dealerships ethics is in question, I would be as angry as you are in this case.
I hope they make good..and fast. Keep us posted.

if it is covered under warranty, they must make good. But they are not going to give you a new engine..it is going to be used. It of course should be replaced with the correct version..but this is a 5-6 year old used vehicle. As long as the engine they replace it with is covered as well, and the mileage of it does not exceed the original, that should suffice.
Granted it would be nice to have one with service records..but even a re-manufactured engine can have issues. I would prefer one from a wreck as long as it was correct and had the same or less miles on it, and was covered under the warranty.
Did the truck you have come with all the service records? Even if it did, the engine was bad? See my point? There is only so much you are "entitled" too..anything more is over reaching and unreasonable. This is not a brand new or re-manufactured truck, it is used.
