On 26 Aug 2004, Regency Moving & Storage, picked up our household goods from our home in Woodbridge, VA and did a door-to-door move to our new home in Alexandria, VA, about 20 miles. We contracted their services for the move which included moving our Baby Grand piano which they added an additional charge. We also took the insurance the company offered to cover any damages during the move.
The problems started when the movers did not have the appropriate tools to remove the legs and the pedal stand to the piano. We were informed that we would have to pay for the 2 additional hours while they went looking to buy a tool. How is it that they move pianos but not have the appropriate tools! Well that is one way to make money.
While they were moving the piano into our new home they damaged the piano, visually and internally. We have the damaged walls to support this. While putting the piano legs and the pedal stand back on they did something to damage the functionality of the pedals.
We contacted Regency Moving & Storage to file a report for damages on 27 Aug 2004. They, with much effort from us, finally referred it to the insurance company. To date little has been resolved with the fixing and painting of the walls or the piano.
We were contacted by the insurance company, UNIRISC, Inc, 3191 Maguire Blvd, Orlando, FL. They sent a person out to look at the damages. He took the pedals apart several times trying to fix it. He informed us that they is a loose wire but he does not know what it is. He also bent and rearranged the hammers in the piano trying to fix the sound. The piano is no way in the condition that is was before the move.
The insurance company, based on the person who they sent to our home, sent us a letter that they are rejecting the claim due to normal vibration during transit. Obviously the insurance company runs a fraudulent business as well.
Bottom line is that little is being done by the moving company or the insurance company to resolve this issue. All I want is for them to repair the damages that they were responsible for. The piano was purchased new just a little over a year ago.
