Rembrandt Remodeling Inc. Owens Corning , BJ'S Deceitful Sales Marrietta Georgia

My family had wanted to put a tv room in our basement so I phoned Rembrandt Remoldeling they stated they could send someone out to my home the next day but me & my husband had to be home .
On 4/30/2008 Mr.Allen Bates from the Rembrandt Company comes and begins a presentation on the product.

He showed alot of information on the product and all the benefits of going with this system such as increased value to our home health benefits being that this product would not mold unlike sheetrock or dry wall in a basement area.
We then went to this area and then he took measurements in our basement to design the media room and then we came back uptairs to watch a video, while Mr.Allen Bates began to draw a design of the media room.
After we watched the video this had already been 3 hours of information, me & my husband not aware of how much longer this would last .

We had to fix our 7yr old a tv dinner, just to continue with this estimate we both grabbed a quick drink of bottled water and sat back down with Mr.Allen Bates told us again of the benefits we would getting by going with this basement system and the value.
Me & my husband both watched the video and seen mold & mildew in basements due to moisture and leaks we have seen water in this area just don't know where it comes from, it comes in during a heavy rain or thunderstorm.

We asked Mr.Allen Bates about water damage he again expressed to us that this product was water proof mold & mildew restitent. We then told Mr.Allen Bates that we would want to get to get other estimates and he said you'll never find a better company or better product to finish your basement. If you have water coming in this is the product for you.

We were told that the cost of the room would be 17,928.00 to complete this was very high for an area of 17x17 and only 290 sqft. this price was for the celing tiles, 5 recessed can lights the wall panels, 1phonejack ,1 tvjack metal stud walls, 1 smoke detector,hvac diffuser , dimmer switches and wall outlets.
no carpet !!

We would have to showcase our home this means you agree to let other people to come to your home to view the area completed by this company they would advertise and have a date to show this like a open house for home buyers. To recieve carpeting allowance of 1,500.00 to put in this area it was not included in our price of 17,928.00 this was alot more then what we calculated while watching the video it states the cost per wall panel is 55.00.

Mr. Allen told us that Rembrnadt could finance the work upon approved credit then he said how's you guys credit? we could fill out the paper work and let the financing department look it over the lady would give us a call first of next week named Tawny Hudsepth ,finance department.

We both wanted to see what it would cost us so we signed and filled out papers with our soical security #'s and we were wondering how much this would be and we still wanted more estimates he again said thats was fine thats your right but keep in mind we have the best system for basements and showed us the awards and testimonials from other customers .

My husband said we still will be shopping around to see who's the competition and their prices .Mr.Allen Bates said and you should when making big investments its always best to do this and don't jump into anything.

Mr.Allen Bates had been our home for 6 hours our son had already gotten a shower and in bed it was past 8:00pm.
He told us that we would be hearing from Tawny Hudspeth first of the week and that he would be going this weekend to his daughters graduation in Valdosta saturday 05/03/08, but he looked foward to talking to us first of the week , he again stated your going with the best if you guys choose us .

On Monday 05/05/08 Tawny Hudspeth call us and states we have an approval for the basement media room , I then stated to her were not going to do this at this time.We have to repair water damage we had an thunderstorm and toronado watch on saturday 05/03/2008 and our basement has taken in alot of water and that would not be refinishing it at this time, she and I talked for awhile and she said we understand sorry to hear this please call us in the future, and that she would let Mr.Allen Bates know about this and she thanked me for calling Rembrandt.

05/05/2008 It wasn't a minute and Mr.Bates called said I heard from Tawny in financing that you guys wern't going to move forward with the basement project, I told him that we weren't going to do it at this time and he said I'm sorry to hear about your situation and he hoped we would change our minds.
We then talked about his trip he had taken on saturday 05/03/2008 to Valdosta to the graduation and how proud he was of his daughter, and he told me to enjoy my son children they grow so fast, he said take care and he enjoyed our meeting and he said maybe in the future we can still do business .

Around 5-1o minutes later 5/05/2008 my husband called me from work and said Allen Bates just called and said he hoped we think about it and he would call us back in a few days I told him no were not going to get it right now and we had to take care of the water and we just do'nt want to get it at this time.He said Mr.Bates said I Understand.I enjoyed meeting you guys hope we could do business again in the future.

05/05/08 after my husband talked to Mr. Allen Bates 15-20 minutes after he and I had talked he said a Mr. Shawn Shelton called and said why aren't ya'll going ahead with this installation and he said he told him our situation and then Mr. Shawn Shelton replied I got a little bit of a problem see my company has already begun construction of your basement and you signed a contract its best you go ahead with the installation because you guys didn't cancel on the 3 days allowed.

05/05/08 My Husband said we didn't sign a contract to do antything we agreed to having our credit checked and we just got the approval 30minutes ago how could you start building a product for someone before you knew they were approved to pay for it? Mr.Shelton said you need to look at your paperwork at the bottom you guys only had till midnight saturday 05/03/2008 to cancel this is the same day that Mr. Bates's daughter grauduted he never told us we had to cancel anything and he never said this was an contract!!! ,

My Husband said what would Rembrandt have done if we weren't approved for this ? He said you signed a contract and we needed to read this to know the amount of money he could get from us if we did not allow them to complete the job . The job start date was to start on 05/10/2008 and be completed on 05/19/2008.

On 05/08/2008Thursady two days before start date of 05/10/2008 We get a phone call fom Mr. Allen Bates and he said call some water proffing companys and try to get it fixed and he said don't worry about nothing that Shawn wasn't in a very good mood on monday 05/05/2008 and that he was mad about something and you guys couldn't helped what happend I said to him Allen you never told us this was a contract and you never said to us that we had until saturday to cancel the work and you didn't tell us we had to mail it in to the company by saturday you did tell us about your daughter gradutating from valdosta and that you and your wife were proud .And goahead shop around this is to see if we could qualify for financing and you were giving us an estimate but thta you couldn't tell us about paymnets until our credit was checked by the financing department.

Mr. Bates then said no I didn't ,your rigt please calm down but it's on the paperwork you guys were signing and that it was Georgia Law, but not to worry he had already talked with Shawn Shelton and its handled, the job had been cancelled . We then asked who is Shawn Shelton he said the President of the Company but Shawn understands we couldn't have prevented this. not to worry God was in charge. He expressed to us in great detail that we could call some companys and gave us some names to contact about repairing the damage to our home.He also warned us not to file this on our home owners's insurance because you get thrown in a system and your home value is gone your blacked-balled by your home owners insurance once you file a water damage claim.
We told Allen were SORRYand THANKED him for Everything.then he said that this would be wrong to battle about it and he hoped to do business with us in the future.It's not you guy's fault.

On 05/17/2008 a week from 05/08/2008and also not hearing anything from this company on the 05/10/2008 the day of start of the project. The postman brought a letter that had to signed for it was certified mail and we signed for it and opened it and it was from rembradnt remolding co stating that we needed to resolve within 10 days any diferences that we have regarding honoring our legally binding contract or they will be forced to place alein on our proerty and pursue legal fees assoicated with the collection.this letter was signed by Michael S shelton on behalf Rembrandt Remodeling Inc. We then phoned Mr.Allen Bates and read this to him he stated this must be an computer generated letter and sent to us by mistake and could have been a part of the mailing system that automatically goes out ,,he said calm down God is in charge, don't you guys worry this has already been taken care of I will call you on monday 5/19/2008 after my meeting with Shawn don't worry this is a mistake I'll, talk to you guys around lunch Monday.

At this point me and my family are going to have to pay thousands to repair the water damage and still deal with Rembrandt Remodeling Inc. I just thought this was over .We trusted Mr. Bates we don't know until 05/19/2008 and I will be sending a certified letter to Mr.Shelton explaining all this to him which I thought he already knew and was in agreement about this. My family are hoping that everything is true and fact that we've been told to us by Mr. Allen Bates. We will gladly post an update.This company never told us it was a contract we thought this was a credit check we weren't savvy enough to read all the papers as we signed we handed them back to Allen as he sat across from us never stating that this was a contract and we had 3-days to cancel. Mr.Allen Bates had been in our home for over 5 hours and we were at the very end of the presentation we were getting tried and we still had not eaten,and we still had go to work the next morning.
We're hoping this has been resolved and will post an update regarding this, we feel this Rembrandt Remoldeling Inc is very decititfful and are trying forcing us into a contract.
