Worst of the worst dental insurance companies

July 15, 2018  - I paid the first month $50 service charge and an $85 enrollment fee. I received the names of four dentists in the 95501 postal code area.

None of these dentists had openings until March 2019.

July 16, 2018  - I began making telephone calls to Renaissance Dental Insurance about the problems making appointments and locating a dentist in and out of network.

Renaissance Dental Insurance employs call centers to take their telephone calls. It took me several days to learn these phone numbers did not actually connect me with the actual insurance company.

1-866-928-3130, 1-888-9484, 1-800-963-4596, 1-855-526-6782,  1-877-6239       I spoke with a multitude of representatives on the phone. They readily hung up, never returned calls, referred me to other telephone numbers. gave evasive information. I requested a refund and was told to wait for a call from the Cancellation Department.

July 28, 2018, Renassaince Insurance withdrew $50 from my checking account.  Coverage became effective July 15, 2018. I obtained an appointment with an out of network dental provider who asked me to bring $200 to the first appointment on August 14, 2018. This dentist was asked to submit documents before being authorized to provide treatment.

I continued to call every working day for information, confirm coverage, inquire about a cancellation, and eventually refund policy.

August 15, 2018 I called Smart Health billing department. They said a refund of $50 was sent out. The advised me the police status was now canceled as of today.

If you are ever tempted to enroll with Renaissance Dental Insurance I recommend securing an appoint with a dentist in their network. After that, you could then purchase a policy and pay the initial $135.

I wasted time and money. I live in a rural area with few dental practices available. They have very long waiting lists and few are accepting new dental patients.
