I was investigating the possibility of hiring someone to spruce up my resume. Since I had never sought outside assistance in the past, I thought a little research was in order. Very little research, and very little common sense will lead you to the same conclusions I've reached.

Start by looking up the website owners using "whois". If you find, as I did, the Registrant is DomainsByProxy.com, a stellar red flag should be raised. DomainsByProxy.com is a domain Registrant which allows the true owner of a website to remain anonymous. No name, street address, City, State, Zip, phone number, or viable e-mail address. In other words, once you tender your money, you've been had, regardless of what they may send in return, which will undoubtedly be crap. Forgive my four letter reference.

After only a few minutes of research I came upon the resume review website, best10resumewriters.com. My initial impression was, "wow, resumeprowriters.com has a very glowing review!".

Look at all of these wonderful bullets:

1.) "Highest number of satisfied clients and sucess rate"
2.) "Presents tailored-fit rsums to serve their primary purpose"
3.) "Rsums are well-written by team of professional rsum writers"
4.) "Service includes cover letter and one-on-one phone support"
5.) "Accepts request for revision and update"
6.) "Offers an extremely affordable flat rate that does not have extra or
hidden charges"
7.) "Some packages offer thank-you and follow-up letters, biographies, web
pages (for online posting of rsums)"
8.) "Submission of rsums to over 50 job agencies"
9.) "Excellent Credentials"

Then I began to read. Yes, just READ! What an eye opener, and definitely a GOOD LAUGH. Take a look at the websites I've listed below for yourself. Would you really want anyone who displays such mastery of the English language to come within ten feet of such an important document in your life?

So, what's really going on here?

Simple! The shady individuals involved in this Sham create a professional looking website, despite the lack of grammar and spelling, make up all kinds of false statistics, and then create their own resume writers review website, which naturally indicates their own resume writing service is the overwhelming choice by some fake review committee.

Continue your research and call the toll free number they list as a contact and question the person. Knowing this was Sham, I called resumeprowriters.com. The person who answered the phone had an Eastern Indian accent. I requested their physical office locations. I was told California and Michigan. Then I asked if all of the services provided were being performed in the Continental United States. He replied, "Yes". (This isn't true). The next words out of his mouth were, "which package can I sign you up for"? (Hurry, hurry, rush, rush. Gimme your money)!

Now, I can't prove my theory, however I've had a great deal of experience online, but nobody with a US High School education wrote the text on these web sites. It was definitely written out of country and is being passed off as a US business interest. While I suspect the owner may live in the US, all operations other than telephone center activities are carried out over seas. This includes any "live internet chat" you may have with a "writer". And I use the term, "writer" loosely.

Another tidbit pertaining to resumeprowriters.com. I pick on them because it's so simple to do so, not that the others are any different. When deciding upon a package you may be interested in purchasing, you will notice:

Limited Time Special for only
3 Available 2895 Sold

Good only until October 18, 2007

As of the date this was written and submitted, The "Good only until" date automatically changes each day to the current date. Tomorrow the offer will be "Good only until October 19, 2007". The number of resumes available and sold also updates. And how can the number of resumes available be finite if they sell tens of thousands of resumes a year? It's just more rush, rush, G I M M E your money!

Although I would very much like to call the few examples I've highlighted below "Scams", the fact is that in most cases they do provide you with a resume, therefore I'll stick with the term "Sham". In reality you end up with a copy and paste, cookie cutter resume simply placed in a pre-designed template, that at best required 15 minutes of work from your "Professional Resume Writer", who possess neither a grasp of English grammar, nor of English spelling.

One last item which I believe is noteworthy. If you preview the purported resume writer review websites, you'll notice there's absolutely no consistency between sites with regard to those services being reviewed and recommended. One would surmise that those being rated fairly high would appear across the board, but they don't. In fact, of the 30 resume writer websites supposedly evaluated, only two appear as duplicates on two of the three review websites. If nothing I've said makes any sense, this fact should stand out and bite you in the rump. (The analysis is at the very bottom of this article).

In summation, it took me all of five minutes to realize I wouldn't deal with any of these so called companies, much less give them a penny! Be your own boss and decide for yourself.

I sent an e-mail to the "Stanford Writing Center" requesting comment from the closest match for the so called "Stanford Writing Institute", and had received no response at the time this article was added to the Rip Off Report.

I found this particularly interesting. The letter below was submitted as a rebuttal to a customer complaint filed on The Rip Off Report, and this is absolutely precious. Read the following and ask yourself; Kenneth G. is a Project Manager for Resume Pro Writers? In other words, he oversees resume writers? If his writing ability is this poor, what could you possibly expect in a final product from one of these services?

Resume Pro Writers: We are definitely not a scam
First of all Resume Pro Writers is not a scam, when I first spoke with Mr. Stacey I informed him that we just have many work loads that time that is why the delivery of the service will be delayed. Since we are not capable to meet the deadline Mr. Stacey cancelled his order and our billing department responded to this request immediately and refunded his money with $10 less for the admin fee.

As part of our Project Agreement (declared in our website), we really charge $10 in case an order is cancelled and that $10 is for refund processing fee. Mr. Stacey called again the next day and he told me that he is not aware of the $10 less, I escalate the concern to the billing dept. if that $10 can still be refunded but as per our billing dept. we can no longer process it because the funds were already returned. Since we can no longer refund the remaining $10, I informed Mr. Stacey that we will just submit his resume to the top 3 posting sites and he agreed.

Resume Pro Writers is a big company in US and is known for providing best quality of service for more than 9 years now in this industry and had already established a good reputation in the business as we are now on the top of our competitors that is why it is so hard to believe that our company will sacrifice all these just for $10.

Researching the "Massachusetts Writing Institute", I felt the most logical choice to follow up with was the MIT Online Writing and Communication Center since it was the only close match. Obviously the owners of the websites in question would like you to believe there's a connection between the two. With this in mind I sent the following letter and received an MIT response:

FROM: "xxxx xxxxxxxxxxx"

SUBJECT: Research involving the "Massachusetts Writing Institute"

To Whom it May Concern,

I've been performing some research regarding Resume Writing Services via the Internet. I've located a website claiming an affiliation to the "Massachusetts Writing Institute". While I realize it's more than probable no relationship exists with the MIT Online Writing and Communication Center, I hoped you would verify my suspicions and add any comments you deem appropriate.

The first website purports to be your glowing recommendation of the second site:

Thank you in advance,

Never heard of the website nor of the Massachusetts Writing Institute"--the
latter might certainly exist, but it's not affiliated with MIT's Writing Center.

In writing this article I thoroughly researched those services I've listed here, and I'm convinced they are SHAMS! However, and I want to make this perfectly clear, I am in no way indicting every single resume writing service online.

Without question there are some out there who are upstanding and stand by their product. As mentioned earlier, protect yourself through research. Don't use your credit card blindly.

Hotelresume.com is NOT a Ripoff

AUTHOR: Hotelresume.com - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 24, 2009

In this article, I must point out that this person listed all of the websites that were REVIEWED. Our websites were used without our permission on these review sites and in no way should anyone consider us as part of this scam.

I guarantee you that I know many of these individuals who were reviewed but not in the number one position. Most like myself are Certified Resume Writers from the Career Directors International, National Resume Writers Association, Career Masters Alliance and the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches. We live by a code of ethics, renew our certifications through a writing review every year or so and adhere to the highest standards when it comes to assisting clients with their document writing needs. They are legitimate businesses.

In no way should anyone suspect that these sites such as Hotelresume.com are in any way a scam. We are victims just like those who hire the number one company.
