Rey's Pizza is charging customers a percentage of what they spend as a homeless tax. I refused to pay it and they gave me an attitude and were very rude!
Sunday December 20th, the same thing happened to my sister in law. The manager of the stablisment even told her that in Rey's Pizza they will not forget a face, and trow her the 24c they were charging her.
She called the police on them, but they insisted that the homeless tax were legal. They are not a charity organization. The manager gave the police the Florida Status, and in no place were showing that this people should be charging that! Donation for the homeless is one thing and being ripoff is another thing they use homeless tax as a cover!

#2 Consumer Suggestion
Actually... this is not a rip off...

If you do a little research, you will find that all food and beverage establishments are required to pay a 1 % Homeless Tax as detailed here click here for the exact document from Miami Dade County Florida Homeless Trust.
This tax is generally included in the base price of all food and beverages and then paid by the establishment... in this case Rey's Pizza is just billing it separately instead of including it in their base price... but you do actually get billed this 1% at ALL restaurants.

You may not like it or have even heard of it but it's the law.
From the The Miami Dade County Tax Collector web site:
A one percent (1%) Homeless and Domestic Violence Tax is collected on all food and beverage sales by establishments that are licensed by the State of Florida to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, except for hotels and motels. Only businesses that make over $400,000 in gross receipts annually are obligated to collect this tax.
The Homeless and Domestic Violence Tax is collected throughout Miami-Dade County with the exception of facilities in the cities of Miami Beach, Surfside and Bal Harbour. Eighty-five percent (85%) of the tax receipts goes to the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, and fifteen percent (15%) goes to Miami-Dade County for domestic violence centers
