Rhodes Ranch HOA in Las Vegas Now with Guns! Las Vegas Nevada

Rhodes Ranch is a nightmare. The HOA situation is comically horrible, traffic is a joke, and while some of the security is okay, most are assholes and now they're assholes with guns. If you were thinking about moving here, don't, you will regret it I promise and I swear it's just a matter of time before someone gets shot at that gate by these angry cop-wanna-be security guards packing heat now.

Here's something fun that happened to me, and I'm sure others have been in similar shitty situations...

My transponder allowed me to get in and out in about 15 minutes instead of 30, which was nice, but I bought a new car and they make these things so that once you take it off your windshield they are deactivated.

I wanted to get a new one because after a 9 hour day the last thing I want to do is wait in line just to go home.

I asked about it and one of the few security guys who isn't a mass shooting waiting to happen tried to help. He told me they WOULD be open Saturday the 27th. Woohoo I thought, so I only have to sit in this line another 4 weeks. 27th rolls around though and it turns out nothing at Rhodes Ranch is as easy as waiting 4 weeks...

So first I go to the office and ask about the transponder, showing a completely clueless teenager at the desk my old one. She said I could not get it in the office but they were installing them at one of the gates. I make her promise. She says she like promises like and goes back on the phone to talk to her gf about her bf's new gf or whatever.

Second, I travel to the gate and an angry middle-aged security guard named Jeff first tells me I'm in the wrong lane... "Wrong lane buddy, don't you see the camera's over here?" No, no I did not nor did I think it mattered but okay. I convey to him the situation, and he tells me, "They said they install it, you can't buy it. You have to pay the $18 and if you don't have $18 you can't get it." Listen Jeff, I don't give two f**ks about the 18 bucks, just tell me who to pay. "Sir, sir if you're going to be like that I'm not going to help you!"

Fun stuff, so I throw the old worthless transponder out the window and he throws it back at me.

I make a U-Turn and head back through the gate (not showing them my ID since I just came that way) and go back to the office to try to solve the mystery of who to give my $18 to... and I'm being followed by security.

I get to the office, upset, and again explain, "listen, I'm tired of waiting 30 minutes just to go home, someone just tell me who to pay to get my transponder" Meanwhile she's on the phone telling someone "yeah, he's here now" Great, I think, Jeff the d****e must have called ahead.

She explains then that while I could have had it installed today, I can only buy it from the HOA in person during the week while I work.

Did I yell at the adolescent bubble-gum popping teenager too preoccupied with talking on the phones to explain that the first time? Bet your a*s I did, but that's when security showed up with guns so I left.

Awesome place right? Great place to raise a family.

Anyway, I go home and call the HOA office… and get the teenager of course, “Listen, isn’t there a number you can transfer me to so I can at least leave a message for someone who knows what’s going on.” She transfers me and low and behold I get an adult! An adult in the HOA!

… who proceeds to lecture ME about getting upset and telling me everything I had just heard (basically muhahahaha you’ll never get a transponder unless you call in to work and miss a whole days pay just for this piece of plastic, muhahahaha).

In short, yeah, don't move to Rhodes Ranch unless you enjoy living under the power-mad thumb of an incompetent HOA who now employs armed security just begging for a chance to shoot an angry motorist who just wants to get home at a descent hour.
