Richard C. Thompson is a professional rip-off home repair contractor. He intentionally will collect as much money from you as he can, presumably to purchase construction materials, then will drop off a few materials to make it appear that he has good intentions on starting your job. He then will stall in actually completing the work. He will continue to promise start dates, which will continually be pushed back.

In our case, Thompson collected a deposit in 9/05. We tried to go to his office in St. Charles (at the time) to get our money back. He had moved out of his office (there was a "For Rent" sign in the window), and he had disconnected his phone line. We initially were able to contact him on his cell, and he continually promised to refund our deposit. This never happened, and in fact, we found out where he was living and paid him a visit. He then moved -- He purposely rents so that he can move quickly if necessary.

When we dealt with him, he was using the business names of RCT Carpenty and Richardson Custom Homes. He was arrested on 12/31/05 and most recently on 3/8/07. He does his jail time and gets out of jail to start the process over again. Since our ordeal with Thompson, we have rounded up many more victims who have joined us to ensure Thompson is more severely punished for his criminal activity.

The Illinois Attorney General and Better Business Bureau now has Thompson on a list of individuals to avoid doing business with. Thompson will continue to ressurect himself under new business names. We now know that he has been doing this for at least 22 years.

Description of Thompson: Short (approx 5'7"), stocky, balding, beady eyes, brown hair; usually wears a baseball cap (as he's self-conscious about his ugly balding head).
