I had not checked my mail for several weeks, and when I did there were a lot of notices, from the Harris County Toll Authority.  Apparently they had try to debit my card for my eztag, and the card was suspended for fraud at the time, and so I racked up around $180.00 total in toll fees.  I had a waiver back several months ago because my card was suspended for the Target hack thing, so they would not waive any fees this time.  Mind you, this is in a period of just a month ago, and now they will not budge , and say I owe a total of $1,800 dollars now!!  That's 10 x the fees that I owe???  I accept the blame for not paying attention to my account, but this is unbelievable!!!  I can see being fined reasonably, but 10 X what you owe???  This is a blatent attempt to rape the public, because they know you will spend the same amount to hire a lawyer to fight it.  The public is in a no win situation, being robbed, and taken advantage of by this crooked system.  The people need assistance, and someone in our legislation needs to realize what is going on, and we should all file a civil suit for excessive fees being charged to hard working citizens.  I hope a class action suit is brought against the "3rd party" which is a collection agency, that they put on you in only a month, not "months" of overlooking the unpaid tolls.  This is a huge injustice to the citizens of Houston, TX!!!!

They're Supposed To Know, Right? How About You?

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

You say your checking account was suspended allegedly due to the Target matter.  This means no money was being taken out of your account and you knew it.  You also knew the use of these roads was by toll...yet...YOU chose to continue using them when YOU KNEW the tolls were not being taken out of the account!

A smart, responsible person knows what's going on with their accounts and makes adjustments accordingly.  Since you knew tolls were not being paid they were not able to debit your account AND you continued to use the toll road, looks to me like you were trying to put it over on them but did get caught!
