After a week of serious storms and hail, Mark Spanton of Peak Exteriors convinced us that he could get our insurance company to pay for a new roof and new siding from the damage. He provided "scripts" and a timeline of calls to make to our insurance company. We had our siding, roof and gutters replaced by Peak Exterior in the fall of 2004. Our insurance company paid for the roof and the siding and we paid for the upgrade to the roof and for the seamless gutters.

A few months later, the siding started coming off the house. We called the office for several months and left numerous messages but never got a call returned. Then, in the spring we noticed our kitchen ceiling had water marks after a rainstorm. Again, we tried calling the office only to learn that the phone had been disconnected with no further information.

We called the better business bureau and learned that they had a forwarding address in New Mexico. We called the better business bureau in New Mexico and they did not have any information for Peak Exteriors.

Peak Exteriors was gone before the two-year limited warranty on the work expired!

We recently learned from the secretary of the state that Peak Exteriors was filed as a registered trade name under RSJR inc which was filed as a form corporation. (That means they filed as an established business looking to do business in the state of Ohio.)

Here's what is on file with the Secretary of the State in Ohio:

RSJR inc., was filed as a form corporation in Ohio in June 3rd 2003. The paperwork indicates they were operating out of the state of Delaware as a business that was established April 12 2000. The certificate lists the home address in Beloit, Wisconsin. The paperwork was signed by Richard W Spanton, Jr. and it was notarized in Illinois. (Charter number 1392154) The charter was revoked in February of 2007 for not paying taxes!!

Peak Exteriors was registered as a trade name under RSJR, inc. at the same time (06/03/2003)! The paperwork was also signed by Richard W Spanton, Jr. (Charter number 1392155) This charter was revoked in June of 2008.

Mastercraft Exteriors of Ohio filed as a domestic corporation in May 2008. Richard W Spanton, Jr. is listed as the president and signed all of the paperwork work. As of June 2011, the company is ACTIVE. (Charter number 1769366)

All three charters in Ohio are signed by Richard W Spanton Jr. which leads me to believe that the Spanton Family and  Mastercraft Exteriors should be held accountable for the work they do under the various companies they start up and shut down shortly thereafter.

If a new roofing company shows up soliciting your business, I recommend that you do your homework because the warranty does you no good if the company splits town.
