Rick Mason RW Mason Enterprises Deceptive, con artist, rip off, Rick Mason Centennial, Colorado

I placed an ad for basement remodeling (bathroom). I had several people contact me and we went over details with each of them. While Rick Mason wasnt the highest, or the lowest priced, he seemed to know what he was talking about.

Told me he wasnt going to farm out any work as he does it all himself. (caution point 1.)

While walking out our door, from our meeting, he noticed a cross above the door, and started talking about how nice that is to have the protection of the Lord. (caution point 2.)

We laid out the contract in a 3 stage pay plan. We were to pay Rick only upon completion of each stage.

Step 1. gut the bathroom.
Step 2. Plumbing and movement of some pipes.
Step 3. Tile and finishing.

Simple enough. The work begins. 2 weeks into the job he starts complaining to my wife (when I was not home) that he underbid the job. (caution point 3.)

Slowly he takes days off here and there for "various" reasons.

We were leaving for vacation at 1 point and let Rick know that on a particular day nobody would be able to get into the house, he agrees. Here comes the farmed out work. He has a guy he uses for tile work, fails to mention this from the start, the guy comes in the very day we were leaving to start the tile work. We let the guy know that he had to clean up and leave, he sort of got a bit grumpy (very understandable) and that Rick had told him he would have the whole weekend to finish the job. In the meatime Rick left me a voice message to go ahead and pay the tile guy for this step. We didnt agree to this as per our contract we were to pay Rick himself). When we came back from vacation, we called the tile guy, he is nowhere to be found, we called Rick, he wouldnt return calls.

A month goes by and I was on business out of state, Rick sends his kid (Dalton) to get the tools they left in my basement. The kid knocks at the front door, no answer, the kids goes to the backdoor, just walks right in, then asks if anyone is home (my wife was home but in the shower and certainly didnt expect anyone to be in the house), the kid startles her pretty bad and she yelled at him to leave the house. Rick calls me immediately to let me know he needs his tools. My wife calls me to tell me someone broke into the house. I told Rick he will have to wait till I get home from business to get his tools. He threatens me with a mechanics lien if I make him wait. He never finished the job and thankfully I never paid him the rest.
There is more to this but HOMEOWNER BEWARE! He WILL NOT FINISH JOBS, after 20 plus so called years expeirence he cant even bid a job right? Threatens with liens?   Has his kid come into a house unannounced? If I saw him today I would punch him in the head!.
