RICKENBACKER COLLECTION SERVICES threatening to collect debt from 84 yr old who donated a car in 2005. Internet
*Consumer Suggestion: Also a Victim
*Consumer Suggestion: It'll be ok
My 84 year old father donated a 1985 Cadillac to the CAR PROGRAM LLC in Sacramento Ca in 11/2005. The Rickenbacker collection agency now says my father owes 1785.00 for towing in April 0f 2006. They are refusing to accept a form 8283 from his federal tax return, showing the donation, because it lacks a vin number and license number. They also told me they have a partial receipt, but it is not enough. I have asked to get a copy of the receipt to no avail.
We have no other records since it was so long ago. I know they are just trying to bully my Father.

Also a Victim

I was the victim of the same type of situation. We fought these scam artists for 4 years and I finally got the advice to file a complaint with the CA state Attorney General (just google consumer complaint CA Attorney General) and within 2 weeks, Rickenbacker had replied to the AG stating the collection was in error and removed it from my account. There's a Facebook page for Rickenbacker Collection Scams, let's get this information out there to the thousands (yes, thousands!) of others that have been scammed by this horrible company.

It'll be ok

If your father is in California, the "debt" is outside the statute of limitations. Your father should simply send a cease-and-desist letter to Rickenbacker telling them not to contact him again. Send the letter via certified mail and you shouldn't hear from them again. They may send a collection letter or two, which you can ignore.
