I received a letter from "RICOH" in a yellow envelope with no return address and stamps from Cananda. Enclosed was a letter saying I had won their "Wheel of Fortune Sweepstakes Bonanza."

Eclosed was a "Surety Bond Purchase Requisition Form" and two very real looking cashiers checks. One for $21,741.00 and one for $2,380.00. Drawn on Prosperity Bank in St. Augustine, FL and the other on Suntrust Bank in Atlanta, GA.

The contact numbers on the letters ring but there is no answer only a machine. I was very wary of this and almost immediately knew it was a scam. I can really see how they get people because the checks and letter look very real. Be careful! Never deposit any check that you are not expecting to receive. I'm not sure how the scam plays out in the end, but I'm assuming they will ask you to send some of your own funds to cover fees associated with the prize and then you find the checks bounce after you've sent them your money.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Canada, Nigera and out of the USA scams.

AUTHOR: Frank - (U.S.A.)

Friends I knew that fall for the "I love you" story and ends up in Lagos jail and needs money fast.

You Won! is another one. and the last in a will that a plane crashed in Nigeria.

They all claim to give Money, but to get Money there will be FEE after FEE after FEE.

And if they every get one of your canceled checks, the got your NAME,ADDRESS, BANK NAME (Sometimes Bank address)PHONE NUMBERS and then the routing number and account number. Give them your SSN and your Mother's Maiden name and they got everything to clean you out.

In New Jersey I believe an 89 year old woman hung herself after losing everything.
The police were there when the scamers called and he says "You no get me, Me in Nigeria. HA HA HA."

The rule of thumb is NOTHING FOR NOTHING. Even if a check is real looking.

go on-line to Staples or Office Max and buy blank check stock and then go download a check writing program and you can make up checks like anything else.

Banks will approve the checks for cashing because it has the right routing number and account numbers but not from the same bank.
they might have a routing number from Bank A but the account number (from a mogo(a fool)) BANK B. and then a bank name from some hick town no one has ever heard of before. If there is a phone number on the checks, please call the bank that is on the checks to confirm the account and routing numbers. Sometimes you can confirm a routing number by just going to the bank's Web page.
