HAve no idea what they are talking about. They sent a letter with three opportunities to pay. Never heard of so-called joint applicant nor had an acct with bank which they say I have an overdrawn checking acct on. Afraid to reply that they will get too much info. Any suggestions?

IF you file a police report for possible identity theft, you need to obtain a COPY of the police report. Here's why:
The FCRA entitles victims of identity theft to obtain 2 FREE credit reports from each of the CRAs in the 12 month period following the identity theft. These 2 FREE credit reports are in addition to the annual free credit report entitlement. However, in order to use this entitlement, the FCRA requires that you provide the CRA with a copy of the police report.
You should file a police report for suspected identity theft and obtain a copy of the report. You then need to send a certified, return receipt requested letter to each of the 3 CRAs, requesting a 1 year credit alert placed on your records. After this is accomplished, you may later send them a letter requesting a free credit report (as a victim of identity theft) under the provisions of the FCRA.
NOTE: Do NOT use any website/telephone to place the year long credit alert on your records or to request any of the free credit reports that identity theft victims are entitled to by the FCRA. Use written correspondance. This will ensure that you get the mandated credit reports and will prevent the CRAs from "confusing" your "identity theft" free reports with the "annual" free credit report.

You can file a complaint with the FTC.They investagate all complaints as for the RJM ACQ LLU.I have them on my credit report and I've already paid the bill.So now i'm disputing it with the 3 major credit bureus.And I'm calling the RJM at 800-268-0623.And I'm going to FAX them my cancelled check at 516-714-1310 to get this cleared up.

If you believe this to simply be inaccurate information (a mistake by RJM) issue a letter to them demanding an investigation be performed under this FCRA statute;
623. (a)(8) ABILITY OF CONSUMER TO DISPUTE INFORMATION DIRECTLY WITH FURNISHER.
(Become acquainted with The FCRA and FDCPA laws. They are a consumers best friend.)
If you believe this to be identity theft you will need to put a little more leg work into it.
First file a police report. It can be very important to establish time of discovery & action on your part.
Then, place a fraud alert on all three major Credit Bureaus.
Contact RJM in writing and send in a dispute, copy of your police report (or file number with contact information to the exact police department involved in the case).
Make it clear to them (RJM) that any attempt at collecting this debt from you will be in violation of FDCPA and FCRA, and will not be tolerated. (This includes placing a negative entry on your credit file.)
File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
You can file a complaint with the FTC using their online complaint form; or call the FTC's Identity Theft Hotline, @ 1-877-ID-THEFT (438-4338); TTY: 1-866-653-4261; or write Identity Theft Clearinghouse, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580.
I would also change my passwords, pin numbers, and things of that nature. Better safe than sorry.
