RK Motors Charlotte Joe Carroll Misleading and Unethical Charlotte North Carolina

RK Motors advertised a 1967 Nova as an SS which had been gone through by their mechanics and listed as ready to go. I purchased the car and it is not.The car advertised as an SS is not an SS. According to their website.

The following items are listed as being gone through by their performance center prior to selling a car and specifically listed out on their website. I will list the problem areas that were supposedly checked off.

"The car starts and idles properly" - does not. The idle runs up around 2000 rpm and does a number on the car when you put it gear and wants to drive on through red lights with the bad brakes. This occurs on a hot restart.

"Grease fittings are lubricated" - not done. The front end was squeaks and squalls. When I got it home I greased the ball joints and tie rod ends which were bone dry and sprayed silicone lubricant on the bushings which helped. It's better. 

"Functional heater and defrosting system" - there is no heat and no air comes out the defroster. The switches were defective except of the blower and A/C and the heater control valve was bad.

"Spare tire, jack, hold down, lug wrench and inflator present (if applicable)" - none present

"Brakes are functional with all components in good working order" - the brake pedal goes to the floor when you push hard and will not stop the car properly. Slow easy stops as if driving on ice works well. I shipped it to Utah to Kindigit Design who replaced the brake booster, the brake pedal rod, master cylinder, calipers and rotors. Yeah…it stops. They also fixed the heater and other things to make it drivable. It was extremely dangerous. 

"Commonly loosened bolts/fittings are tightened" - several bolts, screws, and parts were found loose and rattling. A rear speaker was hanging by one screw. The guy at Kindigit Design that worked on it told me some of the things done were a joke. Just easy things that would make a world of difference.

"All basic suspension components are installed correctly" - Something is wrong with the suspension but I have not figured out what it is. I don't want to put a lot of money in it then get a refund.  After having Kindigit Designs take a look at it the car had the wrong subframe on it and incorrect control arms throwing the geometry out of line. They four linked the rearend which makes it handle like it should.

It is touted as having indestructible richmond gears in the rearend yet it makes noise like the pinion gear is not adjusted properly.  I finally replaced it with shortened ford 9 inch.

I got two inches of water in the floor boards when it rained. I don’t get it. These things could have been fixed instead of having their reputation tarnished and add the price to the car. It’s that simple. Then the purchaser would be happy. When you pay a little more than you should for a car that you are told is turn key then you want it right. I would have paid another three thousand if that’s what it took to get it ready.

Advertising it as an SS is not legal as far as I know. An SS is a more desirable car as well. After I got the car home I checked the VIN which wasn't listed in the sale page and I found it was not an SS.  Joe Carroll said ebay must have extrapolated the SS and nowhere did they mention it to be an SS. Right in the write up they wrote it has the  grill maching headlight bezels reserved for the super sports. I spoke with ebay and they assured us they don’t do that and the seller is responsible for everything on the sale page.  When I wrote to Mr. Carroll again he changed the subject like always.  Each time he puts it back on me for not personally inspecting the car but who am I to question ASE certified mechanics?  ASME certified mechanic with their performance shop supposedly checked the car over and all systems were excellent.  He told me they hire a professional writer to describe the car. Well they should have him drive them prior to writing them up because his write ups are inaccurate to say the least. I guess I'll just stop here before I remember more problems.
