Roark Travel Club I came so close to being scammed. Missouri Nationwide

I experienced the same presentation by Roark Travel Club at Branson, Mo that is described on this site, including the nice cookie and bottle of rasberry juice sent to my hotel room. The first price they quoted me was nearly $10,000, then came down to $7,410. This was on Saturday, June 28, 2008. I bought.

By Monday, June 30, 2008, I was feeling very leary. I had read my contract very well. It said to return all materials given to me on day of presentation. I called Linguel Johnson, the customer service representative, to verify that I was following the letter of the contract. He did verify that all I was to send back was the materials that I walked away with at the presentation.

I mailled a letter and the leather-bound materials in a certified packet to the attention of Linguel Johnson. It was received the next day. I finally got my refund today - at least the refund slip faxed to me from Roark - for $7,390. They had deducted the cost of the basket sent to my room - $20.00!

I called and was told by the manager quite rudely that this was "materials received during the rescission period and technically it voided your ability to cancel your contract if you did not return the basket". I told him I did not ask for the basket nor was it in the contract. He held to his "party line". I told him this was a scam at which he told me the conversation was over and hung up.

I don't fell badly toward Branson like many others, however, it would be in the best interest of the visitors if these companies were shut down. I might even go to another presentation to get something free - if I don't have to sign a contract!

I'm so thankful that I was led to read these stories about others experiences so that I could make a sound decision that saved me thousands of dollars! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
