Hiring this smooth talker was an expensive mistake. One of my dumber moves. Robert Hinsley, or consumersdefence dot com as he promotes himself online. He had a slick presentation in which he boasted about how he had the credit card companies running scared and could make the problems go away. Or how their ads say, it's like a bullet proof shield against credit card companies or credit card problems. My problem didn't go away, it got worse. The Hinsley Law Firm bungled my case completely incompetently, in my opinion. The credit card companies then sued me, there was a judgment against me. Then, I'm convinced, because of their incompetence, they referred me another lawyer to handle it. Even still, they continued to bill me for hours without explanation. I think they were running up a bill. I tried to ask why they were billing for more hours, and they informed me that if I wanted to look at the accounting, I would have to pay them by their hourly rate. -Beware, even Robert Hinsley's assistants get paid $300 per hour! I had to fire them to make them stop adding to the bill and request an accounting. When I went to pick up my file and itemized bill, Robert Hinsley brought me into his office, and inside he has some really big THUG sitting in his office. I've never seen this guy before, I can only assume he's trying to scare me. In the last meeting, he tries to tell me that they UNDER BILLED me! and that they reason it did not work out as they said it would was my fault and not theirs. So my opinion is that this attorney is a smooth talker, has no idea what's happening in his firm, over-bills, misrepresents his services and abilities, and then hires thugs to sit in his meeting to try to intimidate clients who have the nerve to fire him! shame on Robert Hinsley and www.consumersdefence.com "credit card debt help in houston", my butt!
This fast talking slimy lawyer and firm will run up the bill so quickly promise the sky and in the end, do nothing for you but make your problems worse.

Great Service from Hinsley Law Firm

 I did business with Mr. Hinsley a few years back. I followed all the rules which at the time thought was crazy. I was in debt for a lot of money. I sat thru the seminar, took all the calls and reported them to his office, etc. I know it is hard. . It took a short time to run up the cards, but it takes time to get out of it. It is no easy process. Sorry, but that is how it goes. I am now out of debt and would recommend Mr. Hinsley Law Firm. I do not work for Mr. Hinsley. Hope this helps your problem. Stay with it he will get you out of debt! No more creditors calling, sleeping at night and no more worry. My blood pressure was really high. doesn't this sound familiar? You would not have gone to him if you really didn't help. yes! It costs but in the end so worth it. Believe me I know. I am ok now! Life is great now. Good luck

This is in response to the people who found it unsual that it is required to attend the seminar.  To me it makes perfect sense.  I mean this is important and wouldn't you want to know everything so you can make a smart decision.  I think that the law firm wants to make sure that you know everything you need to know and they want you to ask questions.  What more could you ask for?  I think that is very responsible of them.  They want you to be informed.  I know this because I had many questions and I didn't believe that there was any way out of my situation.  They (law firm) told me what I had to do (easy to do) and they told me what they were going to do to help me.  I think what happened with the person who is complaining is that he didn't do his part and he got into trouble with the credit card companies.  I'm grateful to Robert Hinsely and his staff, they're doing good work.

I would like to see some proof to back up the claim!

I have been in contact with the Hinsley Law firm about this topic but at the time of this post I have not engaged them to do anything.

In all my conversations with this firm I have never felt misled or pressured, granted the requirement to attend the seminar in person is a pain in the backside but given the nature of the program its in the consumers best interest to take the time to do so. I feel that it will avoid any confusion regarding the program and the consumers responsibility.

So based upon my experiences and knowledge I can't help to feel that the complaint made was baseless.

The number of avid rebuttals seems to make this law firm sound very legitimate. I personally contacted them and was impressed with their initial attitude. However, I find it quite unusual that they would not discuss anything in detail until AFTER I attend their free seminar. And I felt it would be important to share that fact with others on this site. "It is mandatory for you to attend if you wish to become a client." was the exact email quote from them. It will be a pain for me to drive all the way to Houston but they also said "We will compensate you for gas or pay for half of your flight and pick you up and take you back to the airport." This seems comforting but why MUST a person be required to drive all that way before getting plenty of details first. It means me taking one of my precious days of vacation and fighting that awful Houston traffic. That gives me pause for some reason but again they do sound very professional and I feel their services are precisely what I need. Since the rebuttals here are so positive, I would really like anyone who has had experience with them to please contact me. My email is and I hope that is OK to show my email. I am new to rip-off report but I did not see any rules against publishing my own email as long as I do not reveal anyone else's info.

I never thought that my guardian angel was on the westside of town. I was always looking for you on the southeast side of town, but am so happy I found you. So please believe me God send you to me. Don't stop being you your spirit is beautiful, if others don't appreciate what your doing is because they are ignorant and blind, do not let that disturb you, someone from heaven is washing + seeing everything your doing and is loving it because your are in his team. He will reveal more beatiful things to you where you will prosper abundanly. I am so happy. I am heading on the direction to getting my debt under control just hte way God wanted me to live.

I sat through Mr. Hinsley's seminar twice because I have been through so much that it was hard to believe I actually have a choice. The calls are coming to me all day long and they have even called my family. I checked through all the documents and called his reference list so when I first saw the report from "Buddy" I was terrified. After seeing the other comments, I came to rest easy and I am now on my way to getting my life back. So far so good as everything is happening just as Mr. Hinsley said it would and his staff has made a very painful situation seem hopeful with their encouragement. When I heard about this report on this site, I felt I had to file a rebuttal.Its just sad that websites like these can give unchecked voice to somebody who just cannot be satisfied, no matter what.
I had a lot of debt about 1 1/2 year ago. I had the good fortune to be referred to Mr. Robert Hinsley by another attorney. I was given a list of his plentiful satisfied custmoers which I could call before signing up with him. I called 10 of them and I found not even one dissatisfied one. The common phrase uttered by each one was "he does what he tells you". After going through the free seminar I was given a list of do's and don'ts in dealing with the creditors and collection agencies including a log sheet when answering calls. I had 16 credit cards. I followed the instructions word by word and after 1 year I have nobody calling me anymore. It worked exactly as Mr. Hinsley and his staff had told me and am debt free. The program worked for me as well as other people on the reference sheet with a steal of a bargain. I have my life back in order and my business back as well. I owe it all to Mr. Robert Hinsley and his more than able and top-to-bottom professional staff. The charges were as promised, never a penny more. I was never charged $300/hr by the staff which wrote the letters or answered creditors calls, or reveiewed their letters to me. Not even close to that. Mr. Hinsley and his A+ staff have been a blessing to me and great presence in my life at such an opportune moment. Since then I have referred several people to him and they all have been very happy. I even called their office and asked to be added as one of their referrers which there is no money involved and just spreading the good word. I would love to sit down with this guy"Buddy" and compare notes as to what me and countless others did that were successful and what he did that was so wrong. Mr. Hinsley's system is so simple that all is required is to being able to just follow the direction. I really don't think "Buddy" did or even know what Mr. Hinsley has been talking about. When I saw this mischaracterization my immediate feeling was how unfair it was. Shame on "Buddy" to bring his clumsiness and wrong attitude for all to see and sully the reputation of a man who has helped so many end the nightmare of credit cards.

Challenge the authenticity of the story

I have heard many good things about the Hinsley Law Firm and examined the law utilized in defense of consumers, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I challenge the authenticity of this story and dare the author to state the cause number, the style of the case, and the court in which he, "Buddy", allegedly received a judgment against him. If the story is not true, this "Buddy" person must know he can be sued for libel.
