"Ron" advertised a car on craigslist.  When we came to see it, he said everything was fine, he used the car himself for months driving back and forth to Orlando and no longer needed it.  He had a whole story about what he did for a living, setting up Alcohol and Tobacco programs in high schools.  What a stand up guy.

We bought the car for what seemed a reasonable price, and as soon as we got it home, we started having problems.  It was leaking from 10 different spots underneath, a day later the power steering started having issues.

Three days later, the car wouldn't catch into reverse.  Good lord. Took it to a mechanic, and was horrified to learn that it needed a whole new transmission.  We paid $2,900 for the car and the shop told us it was worth MAYBE $500.  We have to pay $2,000 for a new transmission now.

The mechanic told us there was no way this car needed a new transmission as a result of the four days we owned it.  This was an on-going problem.

I searched google for RON's phone number, and lo-and-behold, I found listings for MANY other cars, written the same way the ad was written for our car.  This guy RIPS PEOPLE OFF for a living.  He's a real piece of work.

We tried to call him back and he couldn't care less.  Of course.  I was not really expecting anything out of it.

We are a young family, he looked my 6 month old in the face when he sold us this car.  $3,000 is a lot of money for us and we're in a real sad place right now because of it.  Karma is a b***h and I just know he will get his.

Your report saved us from selling to Ron.

AUTHOR: disneygirl - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 01, 2011

Hello, My son is in the process of trying to sell his Volvo, which he had advertised on Craiglist. Only two people expressed interest, and the second one he only heard from once. However, the guy who was really interested, was Ron. We had not seen your post, and frankly was not aware of this website. After talking with Ron, my son had agreed to come down on his price because of the work needed on his car. He originally bought it from a guy in Orlando who either was honest and wasn't aware of the work it needed, or was also a scammer, which I believe the latter is the case. My son was very up front with Ron, explained all the needed repairs, all that he had already paid to have repaired, and so forth. We also explained that in its current condition, it is only good for around town, and almost not that. Ron wanted it to "drive to Orlando everyday" and we explained that it wasn't good enough for that until it gets fixed, but Ron stated his plans to take it to his mechanic to have the repairs done right away. Ron told us everything he told you - travels to Orlando daily, sets up the high school programs, and he also said he is a retired teacher from Maine. Very polite, cordial, etc. When he came to look at the car, which was only once (all else done by phone), he brought his "family" with him, which very well could have been his family. All of this to say, Ron was due to come over yesterday to purchase the car - with cash. My son had an uneasy feeling about it, so he began researching the internet to see if he could find out any information about him. He found your post - two hours - before Ron was to be here, and we cannot thank you enough for adding your report to this website! To think that he would have purchased the Volvo, then turn around to sell it to someone in the condition it is in, is just unthinkable. I realized after reading your post that he had no intentions of having any repairs done, nor was the car for himself. So he was asking my son to come down on his price (and he was going to take a substantial loss but is in dire need of money right now so was willing to do so), then take his gain and sell the car to the next unsuspecting person.

Even though my son really needed the money, he could not with a good conscience sell to Ron, so he called him and stated that he had changed his mind. Ron seemed fine with that and told him to keep him in mind. I said,"Oh, we are going to keep him in mind alright!" I understand buying a car one day and selling it the next, but, to sell something not only knowing it has issues and not stating them, but also to put others lives in jeopardy, is a person who has no decency or moral standards, and I have no respect for them. It is sad really that a person can operate that way and still be able to sleep at night.

Again, we want to thank you for posting. If the car had been sold to him and we found this out later, we would have been devastated! Without those repairs done, the car is not safe to drive. And I suppose Ron can get away with with it? My husband seems to think there is no law against what he is doing, and there may not be, but should be. I have learned from this that scammers are not the hood type, otherwise they would be suspect, but rather are well dressed, well mannered, and well versed in their trade. It is buyer beware and when all looks good, often times it isn't, which was the case here, in both directions. Thanks again ~

Nothing to "wait for"...

It seems someone did impersonate Steve by using "USA" instead of U.S.A.  I had nothing to do with that..nor do I have anymore statements or opinions regarding this report. My initial reply says all I wanted to say. I guess since I have been accused on this website as being everything known to man I should not be surprised I would be accused as being an impersonator of an idiot..but whatever, no one seems to care anyhow.

I say this again...did anyone but me notice....NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE ANYHOW.

Hindsite: Check the Seller out Before Buying

RE:"I searched google for RON's phone number, and lo-and-behold, I found listings for MANY other cars, written the same way the ad was written for our car.  This guy RIPS PEOPLE OFF for a living.  He's a real piece of work."

Hindsite for sure. Would have been a good thought to google this guy before paying the 3K. I am sure when you read the same description on the other junkers he was selling, it would have thrown up a red flag.   Craigslist used to be somewhat trustworthy but crooks have made it an avenue for 'theeving' others out of hard earned money.

I can almost bet you when you picked up the car , he had an excuse why the stickers or registration was out of date, probablyhad a few days left on the stickers or somethinglike that.   Its a scam guys like that do everyday.

Sorry to hear of your losses. hope you get something out of it. if so, please post an update.

I didn't realize there would be so many people waiting to personally insult myself and my family in an attempt to, well, I don't know what.

Yeah, I should have reliable transportation and housing for children before I had them.  I do.  This car was a second car.  My 2007 Envoy is in perfect condition, and my 2,400 square foot house is keeping us nice and warm, with both kiddos in their own rooms.  I thought first.

I just wanted an outlet to vent my frustration about getting ripped off.  Do you people insult everyone personally on this site?  I certainly don't take anything personally, because many of you are just judgmental idiots.

And who are you that $2,900 isn't a lot of money?  What do you do?  You'd have to be a hollywood star to not consider that a good sum of money, and if you're famous at that level, what the hell are you doing getting your jollies hanging out at rip-off report all day?

It felt good to write it, it's certainly not going to make a difference in our life and I don't know what you get all uppity about.

Thanks for coming to our defense, kind gentleman.

Yeah, OK Ronny!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 11, 2011

Hey Ronny G,

I knew you would be along with the First Premier jibberish! Although totally unrealated to the issue at hand. Again.

I was NOt "ripped off" by First Premier Bank. There was no Rip Off. And, by the way, 2 days ago I got a REFUND from First Premier Bank.

You must have gotten up on the wrong side of the crackpipe!

Every post in this thread basically told the OP that the car should have been inspected thoroughly and test driven prior to being purchased.

And, that Craigslist is a bad idea.

The fact of the matter is, like it or not, this "rip off" could have been EASILY avoided if some common sense was used.

Not as a person who replies to reports here..but as a fellow human being...

The replies to you on this report from insecure losers who may have an issue with small p***s or whatever encourages them to beat on a victim of a scam...is sickening.

The response from jetANUS is unrelated..how he relates this report to having a baby is beyond all logic and reason so let that go..

Next...coast.."How many miles did you test drive the car?". " What is the Kelley Blue Book value of the car? " How does this change anything? Whether or not you made a bad decision is not going to matter to anyone but you. However why should anyone come here to discredit you for simply lodging a report that some scumbag is ripping people off on craigslist? Does it make this "coast" anymore better of a person because he can come here and knock you for making a mistake?

Next..Steve..oh we already have a history here. He is a big giant bag of d****e.

Yes..he states Criagslist is the home of the scam. And how amazed he is that people have no common sense and will plop down huge money to buy a car from a stranger. Then they scream ripoff because of their own stupidity.

So..according to the logic of the small p* Steve..anyone who gets ripped off is stupid and lacks common sense. Yes..anyone who is not an expert on buying cars and craigslist is dumb..and Steve is the intellect and voice of reason. But I would in all fairness have to ask Steve..how did you fall sucker to First Premier Bank?...Yes, those bunch of "thugs" that ripped you off. How were you STUPID enough to sign an agreement or contract with the biggest, most COMMON known SUB PRIME lender in all of the history of  planet EARTH?

ANYTHING found on Craigslist is suspect at best!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 09, 2011

Craigslist is the home of the scam! Just common sense here!!

It amazes me how people who nothing about cars will plop down a huge amount of money to a complete stranger without thoroughly having the car checked out first by someone competent!

Then, they scream "rip off" because of their own stupidity.

COMMON SENSE.

USE IT!

You never mentioned the year, make, and model of the car or the mileage on it.

CAR-FAX????

AUTHOR: jetames - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 09, 2011

You had enough sense to make a baby (or perhaps you didn't) but you don't have enough sense to have a $2,900.00, automobile checked BEFORE you buy it.
If $2,900.00, is "a lot of money" for you, what the hell are you doing with a 6 month old baby?
BEFORE you make a baby, you need to be able to afford reasonable transportation and to provide a quality home environment for your child.  Clearly, you didn't think of those facts either.
You are an irresponsible parent.

Deja Vu...?

AUTHOR: Jacob - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 08, 2011

When you purchase a used car from a private party, it is an as-is sale with no warranty. This is 100% your own fault for not having a mechanic look at the car before you purchased it. Since you are obviously aware of the existence of this web site, you should've seen the posts from the countless other people who have inexplicably learned their lesson the hard way.
