Ron's Fireside Shop ripped me off and they do this on a regular basis - beware!
First they overcharged me for a chimney cleaning and inspection at $325! Again they charged me a ridiculous amount for a chimney cap at $308!! I felt burned by these costs but I didn't know better at the time. But wait, it get worse, much worse.
After our inspection, Ron Jr tells me that my chimney (entire liner) needs to be replaced. To the tune of $6,000-$7,000. Or I can install a gas fireplace. He talks on and on about how unsafe it is and so on - trying instill fear.
There is nothing wrong with my chimney. I have verified this via two other inspections.
Ron Fireside Shop ripped me off when I mistakenly paid the two previous outrageous bills. Ron tried to pillage more by lying about the condition of my (actually very nice) fireplace. They are criminals.
The same thing happened to someone else on this website. Also, other chimney companies are aware of their abuse.
Avoid this company or you'll pay too!

Ron's didn't rip me off...Great company

Recently I decided to update my gas logs. I am new to the Wilmington area and decided to do a little research before choosing a company. I googled several of the fireplace companies in the area and made a decision. I contacted Ron's.
I was quite impressed by the number of licenses and certifications that Ron's had. I also believe in supporting local businesses (Ron's is owned by a father and son team). Ron Jr. came to my house and explained several options to me. He also invited me to his showroom so I could take a look at all of the gas logs that they offer.
I finally made a decision and I paid a very fair price for the gas logs. Ron Jr. and his staff did a very good job installing them. I am very pleased with the product and service that I received.
I am highly confused at why the previous reporter stated that they were "ripped off." When I scheduled my appointment, I was told upfront what the charge would be to come out. I also was made aware of any additional charges prior to work being completed. How did they rip you off if you were made aware of what you were paying for?
I believe that in the age of the internet, anyone that feels slightly upset over something chooses to air out their dirty laundry for all of the world to see. People get mad a fast food restaurants everyday, but you don't see them running to the computer to file a complaint.
I believe that the original post is a bad representation of a great company. Beware small businesses - some people will trash your reputation at the drop of a hat. Even if there is no just cause. Just for the record, I asked the company about the post. They told me several times that they tried to reach the consumer and make the situation right, but they would not answer the phone or respond.
