At the end of August 2002 I went to the RoomStore and was approached by Bruce, the salesperson. He said that he would just let me look around and that if I needed anything, to find him, otherwise he would check with me in a few minutes. I found what I wanted and had Bruce write it up for me. He told me that since I was buying more than two items that he could give me 40% off of the third item, which he did, he also said that he was going to give me an extra $100.00 off of my purchase because "I was a student and was getting my first apartment and he remembers how hard it can be just starting out." He also said that because he was giving me the extra $100.00 off that he was going to go ahead and put the warranty in the deal to cover my leather couch. I thought he remembered how hard it was starting out? This extra $90.00 warranty isn't helping anything. So, I didn't even think about it until later, and by that time it was too late to remove. So, Bruce then told me that included with the warranty is a leather care kit which I would get when I picked up my furniture about a week later. So, here begins the saga! I went to pick up my furniture and was told that one of the glass end tables was not there, and would be there in a few days. I was okay with that, however, it was not one table, it was the bases for both tables. Then, I went around back to pick up my furniture, and the couch was not the right color. Apparently, Bruce had written down the right color, but the item number was wrong. Isn't that the reason they put the item number AND the description, to keep mistakes like this from happening??? I personally do not think it was a mistake as Bruce says it was because Bruce was trying to push this particular color the entire time. Bruce told me that I could go ahead and take the wrong couch home and he would have the right one delivered in a few days. After I got the couch home I decided to go ahead and keep it because it looked pretty good. Then I was told that the leather care kit was on backorder and that it would be UPS'd to me within a week. Well, about three weeks go by and I have yet to see it, so I call customer care to be told that it was NEVER on backorder and they were never out of stock in the past six months or so! Well, why do you suppose Bruce told me this??? I haven't a clue either! So, before the deal with the leather care kit, I get all of the furniture home and realize that the end tables don't fit. I get approval to return them, but wouldn't you know it The RoomStore doesn't give cash refunds! So, I'm forced to purchase a bed from this place. It may not seem like a bad experience, but you DO NOT want to deal with this place. It's worth spending a few extra dollars to go to a more reputable and more customer service orientated place! The manager is never in or is always on a call and the people at customer service say that they cannot control what their salespeople do??? Oh, and by the way, if you search on this site a bit more you WILL find at least one other complaint that lists Bruce by name!

ATTENTION FURNITURE BUYERS!
Please be aware that (just like in car-buying) you MUST read the "fine print" that no one wants to read......salesman are given "spiffs" but they also lose them if a sale stays pending OR merchandise is returned. This is furniture-store protocol...they ALL pretty much do it the same way with very few differences.
All the years I spent in the Customer Service Department in the furniture business; I am sure I have heard all the complaints you could dream up & then some....
TRUST ME! if people had READ THE PRINT they would know what the story is...
Sales is sales is sales - no matter what the product is - if they can get you to spend $$$ they will.........regardless of the state
Reading is a good thing!!!!!!!!

Bruce not too happy!

I received another call today from the RoomStore, but not to ask if I was happy with my purchase or to ask if there was anything else they could do to appease me. Oh know, Bruce wanted to know "Why the hell I posted a complaint about HIM on here?"!
I laughed at him!
I reminded him of the situation and all that we went through with my purchase. I also reminded him about how he lied to me and basically made me feel obligated to purchase a useless extended warranty.
I then expressed my anger towards him and the fact that he has the audasity to call me at MY house and and yell at me for telling the way he and his company treated me.
Needless to say, he wasn't happy that I was using words that he could not comprehend, so he hung up on me! That's pretty mature and not only that, it makes me want to come see him again and refer my family and friends to his company.
Just remember how I and everyone else that has posted complaints on RipOffReport.com were treated next time you go to purchase furniture. You may want to think twice about going to the RoomStore.

Unbelievable!

I can't believe it, I got a call last night and they said that I would have a check waiting at the store this morning. So, I go in around noon or so to pick it up, and it's ACTUALLY there! Of course, I had to argue with them for a few more minutes because they couldn't seem to find it right away and they told me they would have it in a few days, but regardless they had it!

Resolve?

After printing several reports pertaining to the RoomStore and taking them to the store manager, including mine and the other report that lists Bruce by name, I was told that they would send a refund check for the $217 or so that I had as a store credit. This has been about a week ago and they sadi it takes about two weeks to get the check. I'll post what happens, but I'm not expecting a check!

You expected ethics? In Mesa? From ROOM STORE???

What you have encountered is a typical Mesa-branch chain store shuffle. Expect the same
at most, if not all.
They know the courts here will automatically
protect them, so they do not honor warranties, especially the "extended" variety, and are
basically just looking for cashflow.
No point complaining to the BBB or the company.
Just chalk it up as a expensive lesson on Mesa
ethics, and never do business with the chain again. In fact, it is not a half bad idea to
avoid purchasing ANYTHING in Mesa.
