Roy Hartley, the name we knew him by, gave us a flyer at a bridal show about 6 months before our wedding (8-3-13). We called him and he suggested we meet up that day because he was running a great promotion that was ending that day, so we met up with him later that evening and signed the contract, his work looked good and from the price we thought we were getting the deal if a lifetime. Turns out we were just in the beginning stages of his Scam! He was overly nice and gave us many options on saving more money, so of course we took him up on his offer to skip the engagement session and save an additional $95 on our package. It wasn't until 39 days before our wedding that we get a call from him stating he could no longer give us the agreed upon package price. We were obviously upset but calm at first, then his attitude completely changed and he told us to find another company, which at this point we already wanted to do. So I gave him more than 30 days notice that we were terminating our contract with him and we would like our deposit back, since the contract stated we were entitled to it back if we cancel before 30 days. And then before I know it I am getting served court papers, he is suing us to keep our money even though he has no right to! It wasn't until I got the papers from the court that I learned his REAL last name (parks III) and when I typed that into google, a multitude of cases came up about him doing the same thing to other people. Lesson learned. Then I called the banquet center where the bridal show was held to ensure he wouldn't be allowed to advertise there anymore. I also called the hall were we were having our wedding reception to give them and heads up on the guy and make sure non of the other couples were using him, they then told me that they had a bride and groom who just had a problem with him in January 3013. This man is a crook, he is just looking for ways to steal your money. I also would like to add that around 3 months after signing the contract he came to our door, obviously not knowing it was one of his photography clients houses, asking if we need a lawn service.... How many scam businesses does this guy have?!

#1 UPDATE Employee ..inside information

character assassination and slander after refund given

AUTHOR: Anonymous - ()

POSTED: Sunday, October 27, 2013

I've been working for the company since early 2013 and most of the information in this report is not accuarate and several statements are embellished to frighten brides away from this photographer. This girl that married August 3, 2013 in Howell signed a contract as Savanna Garrette. She wrote this report on the same day the court case was scheduled to be heard in small claims court and the photographer was not aware of the report until a few days after reslving the case in court. About 39 days before the wedding date this photographer was forced to file a lawsuit against Savanna becasue she refused to pay the full amount of the contract $495 for all day photography.

Savanna and her fiance were demanding a full refund because Roy refused to do the 8 hours of wedding photography unless the full amount was going to be paid. At the time only $350 was paid to the company. While being heard at court the judge discussed the contract in great detail and reasons why the photographer had a right to refuse service unless the full amount was paid. The cancellation policy was 30 days and the judge ruled for the customer to have judgment for only the amount she paid to the photographer $350.

They were demanding Roy cover the difference for the other the person they hired which was nearly $1,000 additional above the amount they paid. He refused to cover that difference between his contract price and what they paid the other photographer. Roy paid Savanna the entire refund of $350 cash the same day before leaving court and a satisfaction of judgment was filed in court case closed. He was not required by law to do so but he also gave Savanna extra cash for any other small expenses.

A few days later a bride emailed a link to this report posted by Savanna because Roy was hired to do video and photography at her wedding on Saturday October 26, 2013 and the bride wanted to know if this report was true and we told her not to worry and that it was already resolved in court. And it was possible a civil suit would be filed if the report caused damages to the company or the photographer in the near future. Roy has been attacked this way online several times by other photographers in the last five years because they wanted him out of business in lower Michigan after several clients left studios to sign contracts with Roy for much lesser amounts and he agreed to cover those weddings for almost half the money.

These other photographers were investigated and reported to detectives and civil suits were filed in last five years to recover all those damages Roy has sustained. These hateful reports have seriously damaged the reputation of the photographer and businesses he worked for with other persons and have caused panic amongst brides that were interested in using his services or had contracts already and requested refunds before weddings so they could hire someone else on short notice. It already cost the photographer thousands in lost contracts and small claims cases to say the least. People go on here and spread lies and report false information to scare away business with other brides. The real harm is to the brides that assume everything in these reports are fact and presented as truth. They suffer the most because its nearly impossible to hire a quaility photographer on short notice and not pay a hefty price. Roy is a very thoughtful, kind-hearted, and passionate person and he doesn't sign up brides with the intent to not do any of the work. Its a s****.>

A couple brides requested to cancel contracts after locating these reports while doing searches but those deposits are non-refundable as stated on the contracts regarding the cancellation policy. Roy will do his best to replace any bookings with other customers if that happens those customers that wanted to hire someone else will get money closer to those event dates.
