Took vehicle in to change oil and check air conditioning problem. Said they change the oil, but could not fix air conditioning.

Picked up vehicle, the oil was change and they said they fixed the air conditioner. *Without an estimate or authorization. It was only $100.00 for repair so I paid it.

With in a week the vehicle lost power when driving it several time. Took it back to Running Great Automotive and while sitting in front of their door waiting for the mechanic to write the problem up, a fire started under the hood.

Was told not to worry they would take care of it at no charge since they repaired it orginally.

Went to pick the vehicle up and was give a $1039.00 bill. I did not give any authorization for any repairs, and no verbal approval, in fact I was out of state attending a family funeral.

I refused payment and had to bond my car out. Went to court and they produced a fraudlent estimate (add in, hand written and added to the orginal work order for the oil change and check the air conditioning).
They were awared the charges because the judge would not accept a notorized statement as to the reason and mannor of their repair and damages as a result of the method they used. The judge wanted the SAE mechanic actually present in her courtroom, and diregarded the statements of the witness I did have who was with me at the time of drop off and pick up of the vehicle.

Running Great Auto: My experience

AUTHOR: Jordan152 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 01, 2009

I've been going to Running Great to have my vehicles serviced for about 10 years, and I was disturbed to see someone wrote Running Great up on here.

So here has been my experience with Running Great over the last decade. Both the good and the bad. Everything I can remember.

The number of repairs that Running Great has performed on my truck that had to be revisited later (Fixed again or a faulty part installed and replaced or anything like that) has been less than 3 in 10 years. 1 was a confusing problem, and 2 were faulty belts that squeaked. All "repair of repair" type work has always been free.

I know the owner and he has never been unwilling to accommodate reasonable customers. Everything from payment plans to giving you a ride home to sending you to another shop if he thinks they can do a better job than he can.

My sister had a Volkswagon Jetta that needed the engine rebuilt. Glenn rebuilt it and it worked perfectly for 4 years (until my sister sold it and went to law school, after which I don't have any knowledge of how it worked.)

I bought my truck with 60,000 miles on it. It now has 105,000 miles on it. Running Great has kept it up throughout this entire period. I've taken it to the dealer and to Aamco and other places throughout the life of the truck just to make sure Running Great is catching everything. They've never missed anything. In fact, Aamco just the other day told me "Man, that's a nice little truck."

I don't see how being out of state at a funeral prevents the original complainant from giving authorization to the mechanic to do the repairs. Mechanics routinely get authorization over the phone. No one I know (and I've referred over 10 people to running great) have ever had to actually file litigation to have their problem resolved. Not even close. And I also notice that no names are named in the original complaint.

There have been 2 stories that I know of that involved continued revisits back to Running Great. One was regarding my mother's BMW, which finally got fixed but only after a fair amount of expense and I think 3-4 tries, and one involving my friend's Mazda 626, which had a transmission seizure. Transmission was rebuilt, but the rebuild stranded my friend an hour away from his house 1-2x over the course of the 2 weeks following the rebuild. The good side of this story is that Running Great was very reasonable in terms of "making it good with the customer" in relation to both of these incidents.

Also, I think customer service may very well be lacking a bit if the Running Great guys don't know who you are. I think they have enough regular customers and they don't really need new ones, so if you're a new guy and you're from out of town or you're foreign or anything like that? They'll treat you like you don't mean a hill of beans to them. Cuz they don't need your business anyway, and they have a hard time trying to hide it.

But I really think, despite the few complaints and problems I've heard, that they're good, honest guys. I can't tell you how many times I've given them opportunities to stiff me out of money (just through my own automotive ignorance) and they never have.

I think as far as mechanic's go, you could do a lot worse. You could go to Aamco, for instance. I let Aamco inspect my car for problems once in a while but I NEVER let them work on it.
