RUSH Trucking Leave Policy - Cheap or Professional - You Choose Wayne Michigan

I worked for RUSH Trucking for a few years. They are an okay company, following many of the unspoken "policies" that trucking companies follow.

I recently left the company. I had approved leave during a period when we were not hauling materials. I submitted my resignation with an effective date past the time of my approved leave. I offered my resignation during this non-work time so they would have time to find a replacement driver, and I could get my leave pay. Once I submitted my letter, I was informed by the company that I probably would not get my leave pay because once you submit your resignation they don't pay you leave. So, I didn't get any leave pay (cheap act), but they got the benefit of a heads-up to locate a new driver (professional).

I did this because it is professional and drivers do leave with one day or less notice. I didn't want to be that way, but now I wish I had. I figure I lost over $1200 in earned vacation pay. So learn from my lesson; if you decide to work for RUSH take your leave, work long enough to get that pay (2 weeks cycle) that is part of your so-called benefits, and then leave them high and dry with one day notice. Kinda like they left me.

Oh, I did check Kentucky law and there is no policy requiring companies to give you paid leave right before you resign, but this action sure showed me how little they really care about their employees. My leave pay was a tiny blip on their expense spreadsheet, but it meant a lot to me.
