Ryan McGuire General Contractor Talks the talk but can't walk the walk Ridley Pennsylvania

I needed someone to put a railing aroung my second floor flat roof, and I found Ryan McGuire on Home Advisors website. He was enthusiastic and sounded knowledgable about the project. I provided the materials.

He started the job very soon after we agreed in October, 2014. When I arrived home from work the first day of his working on my project I was disappointed that only a few of the rails were up. Ryan never called me and was nowhere around. I called him to learn I needed to get a few more rails, which I ordered on line. He said he would be back the next day to finish what he could but never came, never called.

I stayed in touch, and after the extra rails arrived he did send his guys to finish, collecting the second half of the deposit with my permission before I arrived home to examine the final work (my big error).  Although most of it looked very nice it was not secure, and one small sloped section was not done the way I had requested, even after two attempts to fix it.

I also noticed that the way he secured the posts to the roof was odd-- the posts had two square plates on the bottom, one to connect to the roof and a second plate that would have gone underneath a deck if I had one (which I didn't), in essence to securely sandwich the base to a deck. Ryan and his guys secured both plates to the top of the roof. I have no idea why.

Regardless, when I arrived home from work I called Ryan the day the rail was installed to tell him it was dangerously wobbly. On November 10th he said he would return to secure it to the house and roof with L brackets ASAP.

On December 30th I texted Ryan to ask if he would be fixing the problem before the end of the year. he texted back: "Omg I'm sorry Bonnie!! I will come out this weekend and put the brackets in. I'm so sorry."

Today is March 14th 2015 and I still have not heard from him. Honestly, I don't trust he knows what he is doing. Lesson learned.
