I recently called Liberty Mutual to report windshield cracks caused by small rocks while driving on the highway. I wanted to proactively prevent the cracks from spreading and thus leading to a full window shield replacement. Liberty Mutual assigned my claim to Safelite Autoglass in Kingsland, GA. The technician came out to administered the services; however, prior to beginning the task he stated that "it is a possibility the crack may spread while he his performing the work and if it does he is not liable." He also mentioned "usually it's because the windshield is hot that may cause the crack to spread and I don't like the service I can pay my deductible and have Safelite replace my window shield..." However, the technician gave the impression that it is a rarity for the crack to spread while administering treatment. So I agree to the service. Needless to say he did cause 1 of the cracks to spread further and repeated the disclaimer Safelite is not liable and have to pay my deductible in order to get the window shield replaced.
I contacted Liberty Mutual to report the lack of service I received and to ask what other options I had to have the "new" crack repaired. Liberty Mutual said they could not send another company to administer more glue but I could pay my deductible and have Safelite repair my window shield. I expressed my concerns about having the same company repair my window shield when they caused my damage to be worse. Nevertheless, I am stuck with a window shield that has a bigger crack because an agreement between Liberty Mutual and Safelite.
I feel that this is a scam for policyholders to spend more money. There is no way I will give my money to Safelite after they caused a bigger crack on my window shield.

Safelite agreed to replace my window for free
AUTHOR: Ebony - (USA)

Today, Safelite replaced my window shield at their expense. So to be fair to the company, I am posting this update to my initial report. If you are experiencing problems with Safelite, please complete their survey rating their service and/or speak to the executive team. I believe maintaining a professional demeanor with Safelite while issuing complete is what made Safelite agree to replace my window shield at no additional charge.

Taking Safelite survey...
AUTHOR: Ebony - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, April 06, 2010
Responding to the Safelite survey allowed my case to be reviewed and reconsidered. In the survey, I rated my experience with Safelite as being negative and I would not recommend Safelite to anybody I know. A representative contacted me to discuss my recent experience with his company. Initially, he tried to use the same justification as the service technician by saying my windshield was already damaged and that anything could cause the crack to spread. Therefore, they are not liable for crack spreading. I countered his statement by stating the technician should have provided expert options prior to servicing my window shield. If he felt the window shield was too hot and could cause my crack to spread, he should have offered another appointment time or refused to perform the service. Subsequently, the representative agreed to replace my window shield at no additional charge to me. My appointment is Saturday 4/10, I will post an update shortly thereafter.
