I felt the need to respond to the complaint made by the person allegedly from California. I'm a former coworker with Dan from the police department in Michigan. I was never friends with Dan so this is my unbiased opinion. Dan's legal trouble in Michigan had NOTHING to do with any type of sex crime. If you Google his name, you will discover that years ago, he was charged with drunk driving and not a sex crime. Dan also retired from the police department and was not fired. Dan moved to Florida year's ago and I have not seen him for a very long time. I cannot comment on the type of fishing boat Captain Dan is because I've never been on his boat. I will say that I've heard good things about Dan's business. I wasn't on the boat to witness any of the alleged inappropriate behavior but it seems fishy to me. If Dan made the lady that uncomfortable, why didn't she say something to him or her husband? Why would this person claim that Dan was in legal trouble for a sex crime when that clearly isn't true? I feel that part of the complaint is slander and it should be removed. It's upsetting to me that someone can be allowed to make an outrageous accusation without any proof.

We have known Captain Dan for nearly 15 years. My husband fished with Dan when they were both charter boat captains in Michigan. Dan has always taken full accountability for his legal matters related to alcohol which happened YEARS ago, but NEVER has anyone called him a sexual predator, child molester, or the like. Never has there been a complaint uttered, mentioned, filed against or court action taken with respect to the degrading crime that Alissa thinks she knows about.

Dan has a spotless reputation in the boating and fishing communities in both the Keys and Michigan having worked with thousands of customers and the community over the years. Alissa's comments are slanderous and 100% untruthful. Why someone would write grossly false defamatory comments about a business without having the facts simply shows a lack of ignorance on her behalf. Also, if there was an issue that day on the boat, why wasn't it mentioned to the crew or to other customers?

Dan, his wife and The Salty Goat family have a very successful business in Key West. We have fished on the Salty Goat numerous times ourselves and dozens of our friends have fished with them too because of our recommendations. When you have a great reputation in a small town, unfortunately there are people who become jealous of your success. We can only think that someone connected to Alissa outwardly envies what Dan has established in the community.

Perhaps Alissa was encouraged to write a review by someone who is obviously upset that Dan has continued to thrive as the leading head party fishing boat in Key West. Interesting fact: there is also NO record on the passenger manifests of a guest named "Alissa" from California. So, we have to question if "Alissa" even exists. We have provided you with FACTS. We have known Dan for years along with his wonderful wife and children. He has so many friends because he is an honest, upstanding human being with a strong moral compass and Christian faith.

Why people like Alissa sit behind the safety of a keyboard and publicly instill lies and fear creating social injustice against an honest and decent person's business is simply beyond us. We were saddened to see this negative review and felt impelled to write a strong rebuttal to set the record straight. Read the other reviews out there and fish the Salty Goat! I was just made aware of this report by my husband as we were getting ready to book another great day with our family for next month and was in complete shock. I’ve personally been on this boat on 8 different occasions; 6 of those with my husband and 2 kiddos, once just my husband and I; and once with my 15 year old and her boyfriend for his birthday (7 of these times Dan was the captain). Not once have I ever felt Captain Dan to be flirtatious towards me and certainly never any inappropriate gestures towards my children. Just because I’m nosey, I went and searched his name as suggested above and nothing came up. Only a 10 year old charge related to alcohol-pretty far fetched from child molestation? I’m typically not one to rebutle reviews, but this seems unfair to slander Captain Dan’s name when the said charge isn’t on google. In conclusion, to anyone leery of booking a charter, don’t be. The entire staff of Salty Goat Fishing Charters are absolutely incredible.
