Sam Streeter PLLC - Collect America ripoff Rude unprofessional attorney who threatens with lawsuit unwilling to take payment arrangements since they want the so called settlement paid in full Houston Texas

I was contacted by the offfice of Sam Streeter on 3/7 and then again on 3/9 at home. I called them on 3/12 and spoke to one of their reps who informed me that I owed a debt to providian (now washington mutual card). I indicated that I can make a payment of $100.00 per month. The lady that I was speaking too put a gentleman on the phone and he indicated that I CANNOT make any payment arrangements since I have assets and that their client Providian (even though they have not used this name since 2006) want this account settled for $1880.00 out of a balance of $2500.00.

I informed him that I will need something in writing from them and to fax me this so called settlement from Providian to my work fax which goes directly into my work email. He indicated I would have this fax on Tuesday. Well of course Tuesday came and went. They called my house again on Wednesday, I called them back and of course they call my house again on Thursday. I called them today during a break I had at work and informed them that I have been waiting for my fax. The lady that I spoke to at ext. 2216 tells me that this settlement is only good until 3/20 (figure that one out) and that I have to make a promise to pay in order for them to send me a fax. I informed her that I am not giving anyone my banking information until I get something in writing that says this is how much I have to pay and that the debt would be settled.

Well, that did not go so well since I told her that I cannot guarantee that the money will be in my account by the 20th. Again they put a so called attorney on the phone who tells me that I have to promise to pay to get the fax and that if I cannot do it for the 20th they have to go back to the client. After I told her that they have not contacted me in months or even since the summer of 2006 all of a sudden there is a rush for me to pay. She told that "I should not have told her that and that I have until today to make my payment otherwise they will see me in court" and hung up on me.

Well, I used to work in collections and I know for a fact that if the debtor is attempting to make payments that the collection agency needs to give that debtor a chance to make the payments and if they default then you can take them to court. I do not know who these people are, but I called Providian and they told me that the account was sold to Collect America and that I have to deal with them. So there is no settlement form the bank only them.

I find it strange that I have not received any phone calls or letters from these people in almost a year and all of a sudden they want me to grow money and pay them. Their attempts to collect this debt is ridiculous since they are unwilling to work with you, provide you with the documentation that you need settle or make payments. I asked about the interest that was accrued on the account and I was told that the account accrued interest until it was written off - but again I cannot validate anything since I can't even get anything in writing from these people.
