Class action Law Suit 37-2011-001101584-CU-MT-CTL filed by James Keeley against Samsung for defective parts used in power board in 7.5 Million TVS manufactured from 2006-2011, advises power boards with capacitors that overheat and burn out the power board causing the Tv not to cut on and some won't cut off. We purchased a Plasma Smart 8500 series TV in December 2013 that is having the same problems as the models in the previous law suit. December 28, 2015, TV would not cut on. TV out of warranty so Samsung done with customer. They suggest a repairman in the area. We Repaired TV at a cost of $725.14. Replaces whole power board. January 21, 2016, tv goes out again. Will not cut on. Repair man back to home advises yes he replaced power board because of burned out capacitors. Questioned about where entire board came from? New board still has same defective capacitors in it. Repairman takes TV again, to see if power board out again or signal board with same defective capacitors. We contacted Samsung and were directed and redirected from Dominican Republic, to Philippines back to Dominican Republic to Arizona, the back to Dominican to South Carolina which took 2 hours on the phone.
Samsung claims because our model number not in the class action suit they can't help us. They will not stand behind their product. Samsung is continuing to manufacture defective TVS because of defective capacitors knowingly and willfully deceiving the consumer and Best Buy in 2013 had to have known about the class action suit and they continue to push Samsungs product. Best Buy of course claim since product was not on recall list they continue to sell the TVS. The repairman just called, the signal board is fine, it is the power board again! Now, these capacitors overheat and burn up, what is preventing a fire that could possibly burn your house down? The answer to that is nothing. These defective parts are a fire hazard! I offered to Samsung to depreciate a buy out to me plus cost of repair, pick up the almost $4,000.00 piece of junk and we would be happy! I even made this offer to Best Buy and we would return to Best Buy to purchase another TV. No deal, this is Samsungs problem, but I Find it funny that Best Buy is pushing Samsung TV and the extended warranty for when the defective product goes out a "registered " Samsung repairman will come and play the same song all the while knowing full well that the power board will continue to go out because Samsung has not replaced the defective capacitors! Guess who these "registered qualified " repair men are coming from? You guessed it, Best Buy Geek Squad! So, Samsung knows they have a problem but continue to manufacture defective TVS with the defective capacitors in the power board and Best Buy sells the defective TVS and keeps Geek Squad in business with warranty work or just plain hard earned money from the poor consumer who felt like a$4,000.00 TV should be a quality product to start off and didn't purchase an extended warranty. The only way to stop Samsung is with a class action law suit in Texas which will help put the newer model numbers on a recall list and the Best Buy will stop selling those TVS. Please help protect us from The Woodlands Tx The Magnolia Room Best Buy and Samsung!
