Today I took my car in for a car wash. After the wash the car was almost as dirty when it went in. More importantly, I had a very small dent in the windshield and in the process of washing the car the attendants cracked the windshield. When I complained to the manager he took no responsibility for the incident and refused to provide me with their insurance information or the owners name and contact information.
I have had the car washed a dozen times in the past 2 months with the same dent and never had an issue. The manager claims the crack was the result of cold water getting in the dent and they are not responsible. The fact is that the attendants were trying to remove the dent thinking it was a derby as I was watching them. However the manager still would not take responsibility nor would provide me with any contact information or insurance company name.

So...

So your PRE-EXISTING problem finally finished out. Yup, they are not going to give you a dime. Your problem was already there. Given that it was DAMAGED, then the manager is correct, thermal shock can cuse this to happen. Had your windsheild been intact, the thermal shock would be across the ENTIRE windsheild. But as you had damage that was there BEFORE you had the car washed, it makes it a pre-existing issue. It just happen to break while you were getting your car washed, thats all. Kinda feel bad for you as you have a broken windsheild, but in another way I dont feel so bad for you BECAUSE you seek to blame THEM for what is SOMEONE elses fault. Maybe you should take this up with the entity or person who damaged your windsheild in the FIRST PLACE!!!
If it was damaged during the use of the vehicle, such as a rock being shot at you from a car ahead of you, then there really isnt much that can be done. This is definatly one of those situations where it sucks to be you. You will have to suck it up and pay for it yourself. Even if they did give you the insurance information, once an adjustor came out and saw that it was per-existing damage, well they would have denied your claim on THAT basis alone.

That is not a "dent" but a rock chip. Happens all the time and if you hit a bump, temperature changes or you touch it, it is more tha likely to crack out.
You probably should have had it repaired by being epoxied before this happened. This one's all on YOU.
"The fact is that the attendants were trying to remove the dent thinking it was a derby as I was watching them."
BTW, what, in this case, is a "derby?"
