We rented a beach condo at The Sanctuary Condominiums in the Sandbridge area of Virginia Beach. The condo was lovely. However, at 8AM on a Saturday morning we were awakened to pounding, drilling, and shouting, dust and debris falling on the balcony that was made effectively unuseable becase it was covered in a thick layer of god knows what. This was supposed to be quiet vacation for myself, my wife, and our two young children. My wife was heartbroken and actually cried at the height of this nightmare.

When we called the office to find out what was going on and see if perhaps they could move us to a different condominium, we were greeted by a rude woman who told us there was nothing they could do and that it was building maintenance taking place. I asked to speak with a Manager and was told I'd get a call back. I did not receive a return phone call that day at all. That evening we got ready to go to dinner and tried to leave, only to find the door would not open. There is ONE door to enter and exit and the lock was completely stuck in the engaged position. We were effectively locked inside our condo! Thankfully the construction workers had gone home for the day by then so we weren't trapped listening to the awful pounding and drilling that shook the walls. Long story short, we were rescued by a very nice man by the name of Ralph who came out and repaired our lock about 2 hours later and let us out. By the way, he was the only person to work for this place that offered any apologies. But wait, the nightmare doesn't end there. The following morning we noticed people in the swimming pool and our daughters were very exiting. The pools had recently been opened and we took our girls to have a swim. Within an hour or so a staff person came out yelling "GET OUT OF THE POOL IMMEDIATELY!" We first thought that maybe there was some emergency happening but as it turns out he was scremaing at about 20 people including us because he said the pools were not ready to be used and were still being treated. Our youngest daugher who is 3, creid because he was so loud and rude! I have never stayed in a place and been treated so badly before. He did point out some cones that were set out but we had no idea they meant that we could not swim, especially when there were already 15 -20 poeple at the pool when we arrived. Regardless, we should not have been treated in that manner.

We then encountered a young man and his Mother later that day who were locked OUT of their condo just down from us and were waiting on someone to come fix their lock. We let them sit with us in our condo for THREE hours so they didn't have to sit on the ground in the hallway.

To sum up, we rented a four day stay and did not receive a call back until the day we were departing.  The man on the phone was extraordinarily rude. He repated what the first unapologetic person told us days earlier, that there was nothing they could do or would do and that it was basically just our own bad luck that construction was going on during our entire stay and that the pools were not useable the entire time. He blamed each incident on some other company or issue but didn't offer a refund of any kind..certainly not even an apology. We will rent a house from now on. We post this as a warning to anyone smart enough to look up this condo resort before giving them any money. Don't do it. Rent somewhere else!

Sanctuary at False Cape

AUTHOR: Rob - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, May 12, 2016

My name is Rob and I am the on-site manager of Sanctuary Realty at Sandbridge a subsidiary of Sandbridge Realty.

I am truly taken back and very sorry that a situation such as described here-in occurred during your stay at The Sanctuary.

After carefully reading the situation as reported, I immediately began a review and investigation based on the limited information provided.  This was to determine if our management company or perhaps one of the other three companies that manage properties at The Sanctuary had acted inappropriately to a guest.

Using our software I performed multiple inquiries to determine if we could match any guests arriving from Pennsylvania in the past 45 days, all guests that might have a matching first name as well as any work orders pertaining to a system failure such as the one mentioned within the report.

In addition, I spoke with our Maintenance Manager Ralph, who is named within the report, each and every member of my team and finally the Condominium Association personnel to obtain additional details regarding the situation.

From the information I have now obtained, it does not appear that this was a Sanctuary Realty reservation.  Many times throughout the years guests often confuse Sanctuary Realty with other agencies as we are on-site.

In addition, our Maintenance Manager, Ralph will always step up to help owners and guests that are in need of assistance regardless of which property management company they may have reserved with.

Finally, If my findings are in error, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak about the incident reported because regardless of which rental company was used, Sanctuary Realty believes that every guest deserves to enjoy their time at The Sanctuary and should only have the best memories of their time at out luxury community.
