I recieved a letter stating that I won a shared jackpot between 3 people and I would recieve a total of 45,000 dollars. The letter gave the names of Sandra Noble, Maxim Hubert and Debrah Love to contact them at the phone number listed and claim my prize before December 18th, 2007. Along with the letter was a check for $2,900.36 from Exeter Supply Co. Inc. I contacted them at this number and the man who answered the phone claimed that I entered myself into this drawing several months ago and my name was drawn randomly as a winner of the North American Prize pool on November 15th, 2007. He also gave me instructions to deposit my the check into my bank account and give it 2-3 business days to clear, to verify that I am the named person on the check. I was completely sceptical, so i spoke to a bank manager and asked them to try and verify the check before I deposited it. This check could not be verified. I went home and called the number back and the same man answered. I told him what my bank said and he called me a liar. he told me to deposit it through an ATM machine right away and call him back in 3 days. I asked him "what if I just cash the check and then deposit the money in my account?" he became irate and irritated. Eventually I told him I would deposit the check, but of course I didn't. I wanted to string him along so he wouldn't change his phone number so I could try and get him for fraud. This all happened this morning, December 7th, 2007 at 10:30am. Everyone is telling me to cash the check, but I'm afraid I'll be liable for fraud, and not him.
