To sum it up, that was the biggest mistake I've ever made, and now I owe them money for a flimsy, joke of an education! I was in the LPN program, and I planned to bridge to their RN program. When I spoke to the admitting people, (their salesman) told me that all my credits would transfer to any other school I chose to go to! FIRST LIE!!! They don't transfer!!!!! I have been at 2 other schools since I left Sanford Brown, and neither of them accepted my credits! I was also told that Sanford Brown has a great reputation with area hospitals and that job placement was a guarantee, SECOND LIE!!! When I started to think about leaving SBC, I called around to area hospitals to get their Human Resources opinion. Every person I spoke to gave me a runaround answer, until finally, one kind woman said to me "Sweetie, I'll be perfectly honest with you. No one is giving you any encouragement about Sanford Brown because there is none to be had. I'm not supposed to say anything, but I think you deserve to know. Get OUT while you can! Find another school, you will have a very hard time finding a job with a certificate from Sanford Brown. They have a very negative reputation, and all the area hospitals are wary of hiring graduates from there." She went on to suggest other schools that I would have better luck with, and based on her honesty, I dropped out the very next week. During my brief time there, I saw things that should NEVER be allowed in a respectable program! One particular girl was picking fist fights with many of the fellow students, and she was allowed to stay until the end of the program. This particular girl threw a chair at another girl IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS! Though many of us students went to our "superiors" about her, they made no move to correct the situation. I am only left to assume that the reason was to keep a racial equality in the course, and fill their quota. There is no excuse for allowing such a disruption to remain unpunished, especially when so many of us tried to get our "principals" to do something about it.
Some other reasons I left are that the school hired teachers who didn't give a d**n if we learned or not! Only one teacher was worth anything, and he was amazing. The others can only be described as pathetic. Our clinical instructors were supposed to test us on our skills, and one teacher became known for falling asleep, and staying asleep throughout the day! She was allowed to keep her job, nothing was done about her. Another incident during our test outs is that when we were seperated into our groups, one group was missing 2 sets of skills (how to insert nasogastric tubes and take blood pressures). Please note that these are skills we would be using on our clinicals and IN OUR JOBS post-graduation! THESE GROUPS WERE NEVER TAUGHT THESE SKILLS!!! Instead, the groups were passed without the knowledge, and allowed to proceed through the course.
If you are considering any sort of education with Sanford Brown, PLEASE heed my warning! They are a complete waste of time and money!!!!! For your own sake, please find another school to go through. And if you are reading this and can identify with what I'm saying, I'm so sorry we had to go through all this. GET OUT while you can!
