People nowadays are pathetic. My father received a letter from a security company about 2 months ago. It stated that we won 615,810 U.S. dollars. He called me in the morning before I left for school and told me to check it out when I came home. I was kind of iffy about the situation.
When my father showed me the letter (and the form) I was almost positive that it wasn't for real. Both papers were all in black ink, the notary stamp was in black and white and you could definatly tell it was lazily copied on there. This is because at the bottom it said YOURS SINCER and then the stamp. Very lousy job by them. Also it had many grammatical errors. It said 22th when it should have said 22ND. Also U.S.D was typed out USD (no punctuation at all) and the amount of dollars was written 615,810 when it should have been $615,810. Whomever did the work, did it very unprofessionally.
After reviewing the two "documents" I purchased a phone card and called the number I was given. When the person picked up he said "hello". Hmm.. shouldn't he have answered "Santa Lucia Security Company, how can I help you?" or "Loteria Primitiva, yo le puedo ayudar?". I asked the guy a couple of questions. Such as, what if I want to receive a check instead of an account? He responded "sure, just fax the form."
Then I asked him, how long would the process take? He said "once I receive the fax I will go to the Security Company and get an approval, then you will receive the money." At this point, I was a tad convinced. But I asked him one final question to see what the result was. I asked "And how do I know this isn't a scam?" He hesitated for a bit and then responded "uh.. We wouldn't do this to the security company." At that point I was 99.9% positive that it was bologna.
Finally, I decided to search the internet for this "Santa Lucia Security CO. S.A.". Because the internet has the answer to everything, right? And what had came up was this site. I was hysterically LAUGHING. I told my father and mother and they weren't exactly upset, but kind of surprised.
But a couple of things remain on my mind. Why do people do this? Is there ANY way for them to get caught? If they really wanted to do this, wouldn't they at least ATTEMPT being professional? If we report them to the police what would happen? And last but not least, do these people have lives? If anyone has answers, please reply! haha
