This guy is a scam.

I found him while trying to file a dba for my son's business at la county courthouse. He was on a list of newspapers given to me at the window. Figured since I live in santa monica, id use a santa monica paper.

left three messages, no call back. I should have realized this company was horrible at that point, so I just kept going.

Finally i get a short, rude call back from this guy who says just fax it over. I did so, and paid him, but my ad never ran. I had a tough time finding the first weeks paper anywhere in town, so i called...no call back. called again, no call back.

I waited another week, actually found the paper and looked...couldn't find my ad. I called again, no call back.

I looked at his website and googled "David Ganezer Observer Newspaper" and found this la times article that says he shouldn't even be running legal ads in the first place, so anybody who has ran a dba with this guy DOESN'T HAVE A LEGAL DBA. The Santa Monica City Attorney is suing him for false advertising.

This guy should be arrested for defrauding so many people...there are hundreds of dbas in his paper.

How come nobody has done anything about this???

AUTHOR: Sm observer - (U.S.A.)

I am the Publisher of the Santa Monica Observer Newspaper.  I don't know the identity of the complainant, and he is so vague on the facts of his purported interaction with us, that I cannot respond to him directly.  But we are fully qualified to process the 120 or so DBAs we process a month.  We do them faster than most of our competitors, which is why we've been in business for over ten years.

Our website, www.SMObserver.com, offers online filing and publishing of your DBA (Fictitious Business Name Statement), in full compliance with Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code Section 17913.  That's why we're on Los Angeles County's official list of Newspapers of General Circulation.  If this were not true, the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder would remove us from their list.  http://www.lavote.net/Clerk/Newspaper_Circulation.cfm

One of the most basic precepts of American jurisprudence is that you have the constitutional right to face your accusers.  I don't have any idea who filed this report, and I suspect he isn't even one of our 1500 annual customers (i.e., he sounds like a competitor).  It's a tragic loss to us all that in the internet age, anyone with a grudge, imaginary or otherwise, can post anything they want about you online, and anyone googling your name can find it instantly.  You can help by not believing everything you read about a person online, or a business he has worked hard for years to build.

David Ganezer, Publisher
Santa Monica Observer Newspaper
