My daughter, who is 17, was approached by an employee of this studio approximately 2 months ago. He kept "accidently" dropping his business cards in front of her, which stated he represented a Modeling/Talent Agency. He asked my daughter to come in to the studio for an "audition". She told me about this at the time. When she went in, they promised her modeling work if she would get her photos done with them. She ended up giving them $200.00 of her hard-earned money before she left, for a "ZED" card photo shoot. They told her they would carry 1/2 the fee for these cards and all she would have to pay was $600.00 total. :O
When I researched this "talent/modeling agency" a bit further, I found out they were NOT licensed to do business in California as such. This website, which is the California State Government licensing database for talent agencies, proves they are not:
http://www.dir.ca.gov/databases/dlselr/Talag.html
I contacted the studio, initially, approximately one month ago, after my daughter had tried numerous times to get her money refunded. I spoke to an employee who told me they had 3 business licenses, but none of them were for California. He couldn't tell me what state they were for or the names of the businesses on them as, he said, they were "covered in glass in a picture frame on the wall". I asked to speak to the owner of the studio, and he told me the owner would be in the next day.
I called the next day and spoke to Shawn Anthony. I told him my daughter was a minor, that they were NOT licensed as a talent agency, but had presented themselves to my daughter in this manner, and that they had taken my daughter's money under false pretenses. He said they were affiliated with Ford Models (this turned out to be another lie), and that he would refund my daughter's money if I FAXed him a letter stating why she should have a refund.
I FAXed him his requested letter. This was over a week ago. I have heard nothing from him or his studio since then. I intend to involve my attorney at this point as I am left with no further options. I reported him to the website, "Easy Background Check" as they already had him in their database as a fraudulent talent/modeling agency. They haven't been able to help me so far though.
Right now I am SO frustrated with these people. My daughter is scrimping and saving her money to move out on her own soon, and they just took it away from her with empty promises and lies. These people, in my opinion, are just plain predators. They seem to make the bulk of their money on the backs of young girls who are aspiring to become models or actors. I want everyone to know about this studio so THEIR children don't become victim to these people.
Here is the link to Easy Background Check's website:

They maintain a database of fraudulent modeling and talent agencies. Check there first if you're considering modeling or acting agents. Make sure the person you're considering isn't on that list.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

I'm so sorry about this, Shawn! I read this stupid report from my ex-boyfriend. He is pathetic, and can't figure out any other way to express his jealousy. You can see why he is my ex now. You tried to give me good advice on how to handle him, and I didn't take it. And I'm sorry for the stupid articles that he wrote concerning you and your company.Again, I'm sorry,Shawn, that he put this on the internet.

Shaun Anthony takes advantage of young girls

I went on a modeling shoot with Shaun he suggested I ride with him because he said the place was hard to find. It was suppose to be a 4 hour shoot it was 12 hours!! I was never paid for my shoot nor did I give him permission to use those pictures for that company which he did. Shaun Anthony and SAS Studios need to be investigated by the I.R.S. What he does is if he owes companies money he will work out a deal to have his models do some work for them and then never pay them. I asked about my zed card all the time so I could go to acting auditions he always said next week every time. Now none of his phone numbers work that I have.

This afternoon my daughter was refunded her $200.00 by S.A.S. Studios. I am sincerely hoping this is the end to all of this. As I have repeatedly stated, previously, it was always my main concern that her money be refunded. S.A.S. has done this. I hereby retract my former accusations against S.A.S. Studios and Shawn Anthony regarding this point. Also, if it is at all within my power, I will attempt to remove this report from the online community. If this is not feasible, then I hope this statement rectifies this situation.
Sincerely,

I would like to start off by saying that the 17yr. old daughter (Shayla Beesley) that Ms. Mara mentions as being taken advantage off by the "Advertising Agency" SAS, came in on her own free will without any pressure form any employee to an open call down to the Newport office. She was never told that if she got a photoshoot she will received jobs, this is obviously a mis understanding from an illusioned 17 year old girl. The young girl came down to the newport office on her own for an orientation about what SAS offers, which is a platform step for aspiring models and actors. The director that the young girl met with questioned her about her age and why her parents were not present, the young girl then instructed the director that she was on bad terms with her parents and had became emancipated. The director then informed the girl that if she was indeed "emancipated" that the company would need proof of the proper paperwork stating she was, before they went any further into booking her photoshoot session which the girl insisted so badly on getting done with one of the companys exclusive photographers. The conversation then went on to the young girl insisting that she places a "non-refundable" as stated on the paperwork the girl signed, deposit to hold her photoshoot date. The Director then agreed to hold the deposit for the photoshoot until she returned with the paperwork for her emancipation. One day before her scheduled shoot date, one of our employees receives a rude call by a women by the name of Mara, the young girls mom. Mara proceeds to accuse this employee and our company of fraud against a minor without hearing the story. Even though Ms. Mara was not very cooperative the employee informs her that he will make sure the matter gets to the manager and gets resolved to the point that both parties are happy and satisfied. He also lets her know that any form of credit card refund takes up to if not more than 30 days. Shayla's orientation took place on Oct. 21, 2005, not even a month ago. Ms. Shayla never did contact the office for a refund before her mother's call. Nor is this company affiliated with Ford Models. This alone is enough proof to see whose lying. The employee and Ms. Mara agree and Ms. Mara tells him that she will then fax over her daughters info so she could received the proper refund. The company finds out that Ms. Mara's daughter had lied to the director with false information about being emancipated. As if this isn't enough the company also finds out to their surprise that Ms. Mara had placed this false, rude, un-ethical not to forget completely un-legit report, about the company she had just agreed with to resolve their matters in a professional way so both parties are happy. SAS is a Full-Service Licensed Advertising Agency with multiple offices across the U.S. This is the first report we have had in 6 years of doing business. We thought we had solved matters with Ms. Mara but i guess you can't please everyone, although we tried!
Sincerly,
Monique Morales
Office Director

This morning my daughter contacted S.A.S. Studios who have apparently seen this report. They are now telling her they will not refund her money because of this report!
I contacted the California Attorney General's office this morning after speaking with my attorney's office. They were very helpful, and I'm currently awaiting response from the California State Department of Labor Standards Enforcement.
If S.A.S. Studios does decide to refund my daughter's money I will immediately post a follow-up to these reports stating such. In the meantime, I'll continue exhausting every avenue available to me to help my daughter get her money back from them.
