I am a 'Free To Air' TV fan-this is my fourth receiver.I was on Ebay and saw an ad for a receiver that has a great reliability and support record without going down ( a Conaxsat Mini) . I was considering buying the unit anyway, having read a lot about in on various sites and so I went ahead an ordered it.
It' arrived a few days later. NOT the unit that I ordered but another make, model, a ViewSonic Premier with a yellow sheet saying Bad News-the unit you ordered is out of stock-Good News-we have upgraded you to a better box. No email, phone call to advise me of this.... they just sent it without giving me a choice
The better box' has a RRP of Ten bucks more than the one I ordered on their site. The yellow sheet has a table showing the Pros and Cons of Seven boxes, with this thing they sent me as being the best'. This was so well planned out that they obviously, in my opinion, had no intention of sending me the box I ordered, and looking at the feedback on Bay', they have done this many times. [Yup-I should have looked harder!]
They give you a Thirty Day return and a label-if you don't like the box, send it back and they will refund you the shipping charge and, the FULL PURCHASE PRICE. They make NO mention that they will send you the box you specifically ordered, yet they advertise them on the website. Just by writing THAT leads me to believe that they don't have the one I want in stock, and probably never have done. They never intended sending me what I ordered.
To send it back would be no problem EXCEPT that I'm in the Bahamas, and it will cost me just over ninety bucks to return it. I called these people and it didn't help at all- just a girl who spent fifteen minutes apologizing and telling me there is nothing they can do. . They won't pay the additional cost of shipping. And for those who don't know-the Bahamas charge an additional FORTY FIVE percent import duty on the units brought in, so you will probably understand that I'm not too happy with these people. A C & P from the Email exchange got me this jewel of customer service:
" A. I'm in the Bahamas- it will cost more than NINETY bucks to ship it back.
B. I already have a [upgraded model of the thing they sent]]- If I wanted a another ViewSonic I would have ORDERED a Viewsonic.
Their answer: "Thank you, enjoy your stay in the Bahamas. Sorry we could not be of
further assistance to you."
I have ordered the box I wanted from a reputable dealer this time.
Obviously, I'm disputing the charge-through both PayPal and Amex.
There are legal issues regarding Bait and Switch' policies that I will be exploring when I get back from my trip. The state that they are in has pretty definitive policies-I already contacted them.
I would have no problem returning it if they would pay the difference in costs, but NO, they won't. They gave me no choice, no communication, and I'm convinced that this was a well thought out Bait and Switch.

When I initially contacted the Customer Service the rep said that the switch was a 'Management Decision'.
On the Ebay Feedback response, they put this gem:
Item NOT what was ordered-NOT and upgrade-Useless C/S- PM Me for details
Reply by satfoxpros: Shipping error occured in our warehouse. We will do a better job in the future.
Followed up by inkvis: Don't blame warehouse-deliberate switch of units-I will be taking further action.
