 Schwans used o be a great company when Marvin was alive and for a while when Alfred ran the company. What happened is that they tarted hiring people from outside the company to run it. Marvin had a great policy "you had to start out on routes to move up in the company" From the top down everyone knew the job. Schwans is a very different company and you can hire the smartest guy from Kelloggs or Pillsbury to run it and they will fail because they have not doen the job. If you look at the structure of Schwans today the offices in Marshall and Bloomingto Minnesota are filled ith Vice-Presidents none of whom have every been a route salesperson. It used to be that every employee wanted Schwans to be successful because they knew and liked their boss, today everyone justs collects a paycheck and waits for the company to go under. Schwans sold off all of their trucks and warehouses on the consumer brands side so the only assests they have left are the pizza, egg roll and pie plants. They have run the brands Tony's, Red Baron and Freschetta into the ground by taking toppings off the pizzas and making them smaller to try to turn a profit. If he tried to sell the brands I doubt anyone would want them as they have very little market share left. It is very sad that a good stong company can be ruined just by hiring the wrong people in upper management.
