*Consumer Comment: That is why...
I found ad on Craigslist that this Scott Pointer had a RV for sale in storage at Autotrader in FL and wanted to sell. He stated to send money to Autotrader agent Matthew Oberdorf at Autotrader and the vehicle would be released for inspection. I received a confirmation from Autotrader that the seller was registered and had even secured a 20,000 policy against fraud should the deal prove to be false. I sent the money and the seller Scott called and asked why I cancelled the transaction. When I told him I did not, he claims someone hacked into Autotrader and stole the transaction. He emailed me that he was not a scamer and that he would check on this in the am but then I found this site and now I know

the following text is present at the top of EVERY listing on Craigslist :
"Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! Beware any deal involving Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order, shipping, escrow, or any promise of transaction protection/certification/guarantee. "
It's there for a very good reason. Those who ignore it are virtually guaranteed to be scammed.
