We were contacted by phone asking if our daughter would be interested in acting, appearing in commercials or doing background work in movies. Of coure our daughter was VERY interested and we were scheduled to meet with a person to get more info, schedule an audition and to get the lines to practice for the audition!

At our 1st appointment we were given lines for a GAP commercial and the person who gave us the lines made it sound as if The GAP was looking for new faces and would be interested in seeing our daughter possibly for a commercial or for a pictorial advertisement.

We were also told that there would be nothing sold to us...no acting classes, no portfolios... nothing! We were then scheduled to come back for an audition and asked to have our daughter wear certain clothes for the audition.

For the 2nd meeting, we met with Francois Maalouf who asked us questions about our daughter and how committed she and us would be to this new endevor, because if he got a job for our daughter it would look bad for him and for us if we didn't show up.

After the questions, he then said that he was not going to sell us acting classes or pictures for a portfolio and that we would not be charged ANY money at all. He then went on to explain how he was going to "market" our daughter, for auditions, by setting up a web site/profile for her. The web site/ profile would have pictures and video of our daughter, where "industry" people, who could only be verified by him as being in the industry, could get a password to the company web site and browse the people who have a web site/ profile with his company to see if they might be interested in calling for an audition, depending on what they are looking for.

This is where the money now comes into play...money that he initially told us we would not be spending. He went on to tell us that it was going to cost us $590...a set up fee for our daughter's web site/profile and then a $39.99 monthly maintenance fee. He tolds us that the commitment at the signing of the "contract" is a minimun of 6 months, but as I read the contract I saw a 12 month minimun! I did the math and figured out that after 12 months, including the web site set up fee the total expense out of our pocket would be almost $1100!

At this point I think he could see the suspicion in us and told us that we could pay the $590 in 2 payments, making the 1st payment before we left. Again, I think he saw even more suspicion in us and then changed the $590 payment stucture to 3 payments and told us that we did not have to pay until we came back for my daughter's photo and video shoot, for her web site/profile, which was scheduled for the following Satuday.

We were given web address and password for my daughter's web site/profile along with the contract to be filled out and signed when we came back for the photo/video shoot.

Mr. Maalouf makes quite an impression making you feel that he is legitimate, by explaining how you will have to get a work permit from the State of California, how you will have to set up a special account for your child called a "Coogan" account and how every time your child works they will earn credits to become a memeber in the Screen Actors Guild.

So you are sent off feeling pretty good about the presentation and feeling like this is all legit. For me though, I was still feeling very suspicious and decided to check the Better Business Bureau web site. I'm glad I took the time to check. From what I've read at www.bbb.org the business is operating illegally and is mis-representing itself to the consumer and public.

For me... if someone wants to represent my daughter in acting, movies or whatever... impress me by showing me some current people who are represented and current work they have done or are doing. Show me someone who used to be represented, but has now moved on to bigger and better things and who I might recognize from previous work that they have done! THAT will sell me!

One last thing...my daughter didn't even get to audition the lines that she practiced and dressed for!

Seg, IS NOW Hollywood Casting! Don't fall for it!!!

AUTHOR: Anonymous616 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 06, 2008

I was hired by Hollywood Casting to set appointments for new talent. After a little while I began to gain inside info into who they were before. Seg Studio! They have opened up shop again, and have begun to scam money from people under this new name. They have the "Talent Director's assistant's" call former potential clients from Francois' personal stash of profiles from Seg. The other "talent Director" Robert Macias, Started Explore Talent.com. He sold that company for many of the same reasons. These people are convincing, and professional at one thing. Getting your money. I am sorry to everyone that I help bring them. Extremely sorry to those that gave them money. Spread the word! They know what to say to get your money. They don't even have proper space for the appointment setters. They put them in either a small room in the back with no windows(same room used for the photo shoots), or a closet, and sometimes unused offices temporarily. They only pay them $8.00 per hour, and promise bonuses that are unreachable. Payroll checks have bounced because of there being no money, and they don't apply both signatures at times, so they can't cash their checks only deposit. Employees have been shorted money, and they make them sit on old, dirty, broken chairs for an eight hour shift. They are NOT listed on the BBB, and use the employees for pretty much any task they don't want to perform. They provide tons of snacks, but Francois mixes some of them with his bare hands. The snacks are left in containers until stale, and left accessible to all children and employees to consume at will. Unsanitary in my opinion. All around, this company is crap! Don't give them money, don't work with them or for them! Look them up, Seg Studio, and Go Hollywood Casting. Also look at the frightening similarity between Seg Studio's website and gohollywoodcasting.com's website. Most of the exact same layout, and wording is used for the home pages. Dead giveaway.

Sincerely,
Anonymous616

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company

UNFAIR SLANDER

To Whom It May Concern:

Concerning the letter written from Daniel to the Rip off Report. We have read this letter and feel bad that someone has misunderstood what exactly we do here. Everything that we offer to the customer is told to them up front. Daniel heard what we do and without trying our company out has labeled us a rip off. She mentioned in the letter that she did not pay us a dime and did not sign a contract with us. Therefore, she is not even a customer of ours. It is very hard for us to defend ourselves to someone who is not even a customer.

We don't claim to make movie stars here we just give our clients the tools to get started in the industry. For example the clients are given a photo shoot a video shoot, we create a web page for them to host the pictures and video, and any other information that they would like to add, a calendar that is filled with jobs, we also have a hotline that our clients can call and get help with any issue. We have many clients and I'm sure that they are totally satisfied due to the fact that we are in touch with them day-to-day, setting up showcases, ect. In addition, we do supply everything that is told to them in the initial meetings.

Once again I don't really know how to defend our company against someone who is not even a client of ours. Daniel sat down, listened to what we had to say and exercised the right not to buy. She claims we did not impress her in the way she wanted so she decided to take the time to write a letter bashing our company without trying our service, and then said we were doing business illegally. We would love to know what it is that we are doing illegally. We at SEG Studio are in full compliance of the law.

Many of our clients are currently doing well at their new careers that we helped get them started in. We are currently maintaining a high volume of clientele that are very satisfied and successful with the service that we provide.

Sincerely,

Francois Maalouf

I'm just posting this info to warn people of the company and the new talent agency scam of paying a set up fee for a web site/profile and then paying a monthly maintenance fee too!

Also want to advise people to check the www.bbb.org and to post something on Rip-off Report.com as well!
