This online service provides pdf files for a monthly fee. It offers a free trial period, with access to your PayPal account so it start charging after that month if you fail to cancel the service. I signed up to read a file and try it out, decided I really wasn't going to use the service, and cancelled it before the month was up. I thrn receive a notice that the fee had been deducted from my account. I immediately emailed their support address to explain I had already cancelled, wasn't using the service, and asked thrm to refund the money.

I was forwarned it could take a few days to respond. I wait3d, and there was no response. I forwarded the previous message, after a week I forwarded it to all the emails they provided when phone failed. See, they don't list a number at all on their website, but I found two with a simple search. One is a prerecorded message saying they don't offer support over the phone, and telling me not to leave a voicemail. The other number is just an ear splitting shriek.

I went back to the website and cancelled the subscription, I find out in a few weeks if they honoured this. I have continued to forward my original messages to all their emails and perhaps someone will notice, and I will write their postal address. I have also informed them I will report them to any site I can find which deals with scams. Other than that, I have no idea how to get my money back or guarantee they won't take more. It feels like bashing my head against a wall.

As a last resort, it ocurred to me to try Facebook to get through to these people. First I tried messenger which also yielded no response, so I commented on a post on their timeline that they should take time to respond the messages, then went to write a review and noticed people were getting issues resolved this way. Hard to ignore when your rating falls below 3 stars I suppose.

So then within minutes I received a response to my timeline comments saying they had replied to me on messenger, the message thanked me for 'reaching out' and asked for my ticket number (sort of unprofessional if you ask me, considering I had 2 ticket numbers and had sent an abundance of email messages with the same information for them to choose from). After providing these numbers I very quickly received an apology that my 'email' (as if there had been only one) had been lost due to higher than normal amounts of emails. I have yet to investigate if this is their standard excuse. (much like a restaurant I once worked for whose excuse for food complaints was that the main chef was away that week :D ) Funny they didn't have time to reply to customers asking for their money back for over a year, according to reviews on their FB page.

They told me they had issued a refund and cancelled my subscription (again?!) but that I would still be able to view documents online for free. This sounded suspicious and after all this time and effort I didn't want anything to do with them or to have any risk of unforseen charges so I told them to completely delete my account.

Just in case, after reading the reviews and comments on FB, I called my bank to block them, but they charge more for this service than Scribd demands for it's monthly fee. Anyway this was just a backup precaution, I had actually signed up with Paypal (which defaults to the bank if there is not a sufficient Paypal balance), who was very helpful and informed me that the money had actually been refunded right away and it appears from their end that the subscription had been cancelled.

We'll see if anything happens in a couple weeks when the next charge would have been due.

Apparently when one needs results from a scammer, publicly calling them out on Facebook results in very fast response time. Literally it would have been 3 weeks on friday of repeatedly sending messages... and within minutes of posting in a public place they were finally communicating. Perhaps if people who have been ignored n their previous attempts were to create increased activity on their FB page they may get some results.
