My wife and I were persuaded to get the Carnival Sea Miles MasterCard (Juniper Bank) while on a cruise. At the time, we were assured that 25,000 miles would get us a free cruise of up to 7 days. We thought, great, we'll have that in about 2 years.
When we had accumulated over 30,000 miles, we tried to redeem them for a free cruise. No luck. First, you have to go through Sea Miles, and their customer service is almost non-existent. Second, we found out that there is no mileage amount which can be redeemed for a free cruise. Third, we were offered a very small discount ($150) for each 10,000 miles redeemed, and the "list price" of the cruise was higher than we could have gotten elsewhere.
So, we decided to just redeem the miles, then cancel the card. On future cruises, I will make it my mission to dissuade all from participating in the Sea Miles ripoff.
