ICON Payment Solutions uses call center telemarketers to set appointments.  The pitch sounds legitimate.  They target small business people; the name ICON is not mentioned.  ICON's telemarketers actually got me to listen to two presentations, from different salesman, on two occasions one year apart.      On the first, the pitch was so strange I rejected it out of hand:  ICON wanted to charge me $300 up front to do my processing if I would not purchase or lease their equipment.      The second pitch was more nuanced.  I approved terms and signed a document from which someone at ICON lifted my signature and reproduced it three times on two other documents I never saw much less agreed to.  The company debited my bank account before I connected my credit card machine into their system.  The amounts they took were double what was promised and they refused or were slow to reimburse my bank account.  Finally I requested they cease.  A month later the company debited $350 for "early cancellation".  They produced two documents they had forged my name onto.     I am fortunate that I was able to catch them.  After some delay they reimbursed all the money.

Getting Your Money Back From ICON: ESCALATE

AUTHOR: Richard - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, August 20, 2010

It turns out ICON grants other parties access to your bank account.  ICON is apparently an agent first for IPayment and ultimately for Wells Fargo, one of the main VISA banks, and operate through other intermediaries who also have access to your bank account.

Look closely at your bank statements for the identity of the parties debiting your accounts.

I complained to them and also to the parent bank, Wells Fargo.

The upstream entities agreed to investigate and ultimately all my money was returned.

Of course, my complaint was fraud by forgery.  You may also obtain support for your story from the ICON salesperson.  The odds are she was ripped off as well by these no-good-nicks.  I hope you still can get in touch with her.

Remember, again, if they are drafting money continuously you can close your bank account.

Before switching credit card processors:  ASK FOR REFERENCES, and speak with them.

Agreed. Icon ripped me off too!

AUTHOR: SoCalBusiness - (United States of America)

I agree that Icon Payment Solutions is a less than reputable company.  I though they might be since Sean the CEO had posted his cell phone number on this site so that if anyone had a problem we could contact him directly.  When I was unable to reach him or anyone at his company that could do anything after 2 months I no longer believed they were who they said they were.

About 3 months ago I was approached by an Icon Payment rep.  They fooled me into signing up for a processing program that would save me about $350 a month.  Jenny Haskett was the name of the sales rep.  She seemed nice enough but in retrospect her tactics were pretty sly.

She told me how low my rate was with my (at the time) current processing company, which I have found out since then are not that low at all.  She told me she would not be able to beat my current rate because it was so low.  She came back 15 minutes later and told me that she "talked to her boss" and he said he knew of a way that they could beat the "great rate I was already getting".  If I signed a lease for a debit pinpad that would make my transactions more secure and they could give me a lower rate.

So, I signed the small and simple paragraph about a lease for a pinpad amongst 3-4 other pages of an agreement with Icon Payment Solutions.  The lease was apparently through 1st Data Global Leasing.  No where on the document that I signed did it say 1st Data Global Leasing.  I assumed my lease would be through Icon, which Jenny Haskett told me could be cancelled at ANY time with no fee.  It turned out that the lease was a 4 year NON-cancellable contract that would debit $100/month from my bank account.

The part that I could cancel was my processing account with Icon Payment Solution, which instead of NO fee like I was told, was a $350 early cancellation fee.  Apparently there was no fee if I cancelled within 30 days.  I attempted 3 times to cancel within the first week and was told that they would get in contact with me.  They never contacted me to cancel and since I didn't know I only had 30 days, I waited for them to contact me past the 30 day mark.  And what do you know, after about 34 days I was miraculously able to talk to someone that could help me cancel.

They have told me there is no way I can get that $350 back.  If anyone has a suggestion please e-mail me! I honestly loathe the day that I heard out the sales pitch from Jenny Haskett and Icon Payment Solutions! Such a shady company.

Brian
