Hi, my girlfriend and I went to catalina and stayed 2 nights for my birthday 7/28 - 7/29. The website described the rooms a certain way, but when we got there the room was far from the description, what a disapointment.
The only view we had was of the back of the hotel, which was a dump, we saw the other rooms and their view was of a construction site where there was no light. It's difficult to move around, specially if you have big or heavy suitcases.
The shuttle service is ghetto. There's only one driver for all the guests in the hotel, so you might have to wait an hour to get a 5 minute ride to the catalina express center. When we got there, they made us wait for about an hour because they did not have our room clean/ready. My girlfriend had a surprise for me and an employee blew it.
We wanted to upgrade the room, but they wanted like $150 more for a better room, a "suite", but we did not buy into it. The suites as I heard are just decent rooms. They offer complimentary champagne, well... it's just 2 little bottles of cheap sparkling wine.
If this is "Catalina Island's Finest Family Run Smoke Free Resort Hotel", I dont want to see how the other ones are like!
To make a long story short, do yourself a favor, avoid the disapointment by staying somewhere else, you might even save money too.

The 1st one is a view of avalon bay, that's not the view from the hotel.
The 2nd one is a picture of the hotel, that's when the yard was clean.
The third one shows you a nice bottle of champagne,that's not the complimentary champagne they give you. You get 2 little cheap bottles of sparkling wine and 2 little plastic cups.
I did not get a chance to see the jacuzzi or the other room (4th & 5th picture).
False advertisement all the way!
